: Social media handle linked to TRF warns Ex Separatist leader Bilal Lone

Srinagar, Jul 20: Kashmir Fight, a notorious social media handle linked to proscribed terror outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), has issued a warning to former separatist leader Bilal Gani Lone who recently announced his decision to shun separatist politics and enter the mainstream.

In a social media post, the Kashmir Fight said the pronouncement by the "puppet Bilal Lone merely unveils the authentic self he has clandestinely concealed for numerous years".

Lone, in an exclusive interview to PTI, has held the Hurriyat Conference responsible for its own "irrelevance", calling the separatist conglomerate "non-functional", while also slamming Pakistan for creating a "mess" and "fissures" in Jammu and Kashmir.

The comments of Lone on Saturday marked a significant departure from traditional separatist rhetoric, acknowledging that both the Hurriyat and Pakistan had "faltered" on opportunities to bring progress to the region.

The next generation is the primary motivation for Lone's shift to mainstream politics, as he urged the younger generation to accept the reality that India is "too big a power" to fight and advised them not to see the country through the lens of political parties but to "see India as India" to find a space for themselves within the country.

Accusing Lone and his family of acting as "pawns for Delhi", the post asked those siding with "such clowns should introspect, mend their ways, and apologise to Kashmiris for supporting such touts and traitors".

The US State Department recently announced adding the TRF as a "designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)" and cited its claim taking responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

: Driver With Heavy Goods License Can Drive Passenger Vehicle: J&K High Court*

*Says No Separate PSV Endorsement Required After 1994 Amendment

Srinagar, July 20 : The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has held that a person holding a driving license for a 'Heavy Goods Vehicle' is legally competent to drive a passenger vehicle, citing the 1994 amendment which unified all commercial vehicles under the 'transport vehicle' category.

Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani passed the ruling while dismissing an appeal filed by the National Insurance Company Ltd, which had challenged a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) award dated February 6, 2014, arguing that the driver lacked a specific endorsement to drive a Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV).

The Court clarified that Section 10(2)(e) of the Motor Vehicle Act, after the 1994 amendment, merged the classifications of commercial vehicles into a single category — ‘transport vehicle’ — thereby making a person with a heavy goods vehicle license eligible to drive any commercial vehicle, including passenger carriers.

"Any person holding a driving license to drive a heavy goods vehicle would be competent to drive a passenger-carrying vehicle as well," the Court observed.

The insurer had also contested the MACT’s award of 7.5% interest as excessive and objected to the closure of evidence proceedings without the examination of certain witnesses. However, the Court dismissed all arguments as devoid of merit.

The Court also rejected the insurer’s reliance on a previous case, Bashir Ahmed Chopan, terming it per incuriam and instead upheld the legal reasoning laid down in National Insurance Co. Ltd. vs. Mohd. Sadiq Kuchay, where a Division Bench had ruled that PSV endorsements are not mandatory under J&K Motor Vehicle Rules.

The bench ordered that the compensation amount, already deposited by the insurance company in compliance with a 2014 interim order, be released to the claimants as per the original award.

Advocates Dinesh Singh Chauhan and Damini Singh Chauhan represented the appellants.

: *WCL cancels legends match between India and Pakistan after Indian stars boycott game*

Birmingham, Jul 20: A veterans' cricket match involving India and Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends here on Sunday has been cancelled after Indian players, including Shikhar Dhawan, refused to be a part of it citing the Pahalgam terror attack in April.

The second edition of the tournament started on June 18 at Edgbaston and is scheduled for an August 2 final. World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh is the captain of the India legends, while the squad also features the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa and Varun Aaron among others.

The WCL organisers shared a statement on their X account, detailing the decision of cancellation and said their intention while conducting the match was to recreate some "happy memories."

"After hearing the news that the Pakistan hockey team will be coming to India this year, and seeing the recent India vs Pakistan volleyball match along with a few other fixtures between the two nations in different sports, we thought of continuing with the India vs Pakistan match at WCL, just to create some happy memories for people around the globe.

"But maybe in the process, we ended up hurting the feelings of many and stirring emotions," the WCL statement read.

The organisers also apologised for "unintentionally causing discomfort" to Indian legends.

"Hence, we have decided to call off the India-Pakistan match. We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans," it read.

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan also shared a statement on X, announcing his stand not to participate in the match against Pakistan.

"This is to formally reiterate and confirm that Mr. Shikhar Dhawan will not be participating in any matches against the Pakistan team in the upcoming WCL League. This decision was communicated earlier during our discussion on call and WhatsApp dated 11th May 2025," read his statement.

Dhawan made it clear that he has taken the call in view of the current "geopolitical" situation between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack and the ensuing Operation Sindoor carried out by the country.

"In view of the current geopolitical situation and the prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan, Mr. Dhawan and his team have taken this position after due consideration.

"We respectfully request the league's understanding and cooperation on this matter," he said in the statement.

India had defeated Pakistan by five wickets to win the inaugural edition of the six-team legends tournament last year in Edgbaston.
