One tempo bearing reg. No. JK02DK9439 driven by unknown driver has hit one motorcycle bearing reg. No. JK14J6637 at Naryan Cut road towards Katra and due to which person riding the bike met with an accident. On this police team of PP Tikri reached at the spot and shifted the injured to Narayana Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Surjeet Singh S/o Sher Singh R/o Galeote Bakal Pancheri Udhampur age 23 years.

MLA Baldev Raj Sharma visited the Banganga site to inspect the aftermath of the recent landslide, today.

MLA conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area and reviewed the situation with the local authorities.
Later, he also visited Katra CHC to meet and check on the well-being of those injured in the incident.

06 drug peddlers arrested by Udhampur Police; contraband recovered.

Udhampur, July 21:

In a continued drive against drug trafficking, Udhampur Police has registered three separate NDPS cases, recovered contraband substances and arrested six accused.

1. Poppy Straw Seized at Rehambal (Garnai):

During naka checking at Garnai Chowk NHW, a Tata Yodha (JK14J-9447) coming from Udhampur side was intercepted. 10.540 kg poppy straw was recovered from the cabin of the said vehicle. Three accused persons identified as Javaid Ahmed of Pulwama, Bashir Ahmed of Qazikund and Abdul Wahid of Udhampur were arrested.

In this regard, A Case FIR No. 114/2025 U/S 8/15/29 NDPS Act was registered at PS Rehambal.

2. He**in Recovered in Tikri:

During traffic checking at Tikri, a motorcycle (JK14-7119) was stopped and 8.77 grams of he**in were recovered from two persons, namely Parshotam Kumar of Neeli Nallah and Koushal Sharma of Kambal Danga both were arrested on the spot.

In this regard, FIR No. 113/2025 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at PS Rehambal.

3. G***a Seized at Kud:

A Honda City (CH03Z-4486) coming from Patnitop was intercepted at Kud. 975 grams of G***a was recovered from the vehicle. Accused namely Rakesh Masih of Jammu was arrested.

In this regard, A Case FIR No. 33/2025 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at PS Kud.

Deeply saddened by the death of a Yatri on the Ban Ganga track due to a landslide. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. The shrine board needs to understand that continuous over construction on the track is one of the reasons for such accidents and it needs to slow down on such projects and plan out projects in a more sustainable way, don’t just think about facilities but also about nature: Ex.
