*Department of Social Welfare Concludes Assessment Camps across District Kishtwar*

_230 Beneficiaries Assessed Under ADIP and RVY Schemes_

On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), and Director, Social Welfare, Sh. Ranjeet Singh (JKAS), the Department of Social Welfare, Kishtwar, today concluded a series of assessment camps organized for Divyangjan and senior citizens across the district, with active participation of eligible beneficiaries.

The assessment camps were organized in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) for identification and assessment of eligible persons requiring assistive and prosthetic aids under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) schemes of the Government of India. The concluding camp was held today at Nali, Bunjwah, covering beneficiaries from far-flung areas of the district.

The assessment camps were conducted under the overall supervision of the District Social Welfare Officer, Kishtwar, Sh. Tariq Parveaz Qazi (JKAS).

As per the detailed camp-wise assessment figures, a total of 268 beneficiaries were assessed during the camps. This includes 230 senior citizens assessed under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY). The remaining 38 beneficiaries were assessed under the ADIP Scheme for eligible Divyangjan.

Camp-wise participation included 144 beneficiaries from Kishtwar, 22 from Dachhan, 54 from Paddar and 48 from Bunjwah.

The assessment camps were held at different locations across the district as per the notified schedule. The first camp was conducted at TRC Kishtwar on August 21, followed by a camp at Panjdhara, Dachhan, on August 22. The next camp was organized at Panchayat Ghar, Tiyari, Paddar, on August 24, while the concluding camp was held today at Nali, Bunjwah, on August 25.

It is pertinent to mention that the Department of Social Welfare, Kishtwar, organized the assessment camps with the objective of extending the benefits of Government welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries residing in far-flung and remote areas of the district, thereby facilitating their access to assistive devices and other necessary aids closer to their places of residence.

The assessment camps at Marwah and Warwan have been postponed and their revised dates will be notified separately by the Department of Social Welfare, Kishtwar, after consultation with the ALIMCO authorities.

Senior Citizens Council Submits 10-Point Charter of Demands for Kishtwar Development

Kishtwar, August 25, 2026: The Jammu & Kashmir Senior Citizens Council has submitted a comprehensive charter of demands to Hon’ble Rajya Sabha Member from Kishtwar, Janab Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, urging him to take up key developmental and public-interest issues of District Kishtwar with the Government of India and concerned ministries.

The Council, led by its President Ab Majeed Bichoo, highlighted several long-pending demands aimed at strengthening education, healthcare, tourism, sports, infrastructure and employment opportunities in the district.

The major demands include:

1. Establishment of Senior Citizens Clubs at Tehsil and District Headquarters to utilize the experience and wisdom of senior citizens for social welfare and community development.
2. 5% reservation for Kishtwar students in professional colleges across India, citing the educational and geographical backwardness of the district.
3. Sanctioning of a Government Medical College at Kishtwar to provide tertiary healthcare facilities to the people of Kishtwar and the wider Chenab Valley.
4. Establishment of a full-fledged Agriculture University at Kishtwar to promote research, education and development in saffron, rajma, guchhi, medicinal plants, horticulture and organic farming.
5. Tourism development, including establishment of a Himalayan Mountaineering & Adventure Institute and development of tourist circuits covering Paddar, Marwah-Warwan, Dachhan, Buniywah, Chatroo, Margan Top, Sinthan Top and other areas.
6. Special development and beautification package for the historic Chowgan Ground, including drainage, flowering beds, jogging track and lighting, besides protection of the heritage ground from encroachments.
7. Handing over the Kishtwar–Sounder–Dachhan–Marwah road to BRO/GREF for development as an all-weather road, considering the connectivity and strategic importance of the area.
8. Strengthening sports infrastructure, including immediate completion of the Indoor Stadium and sanctioning of a full-fledged Sports Stadium at Kishtwar, to promote sports and provide youth with better opportunities.
9. Other urgent demands, including 80% employment for locals in power projects, subsidized winter helicopter services for Marwah, Warwan and Paddar, and upgradation of District Hospital Kishtwar to 300 beds along with a Nursing College.
10. Creation of a Hill Council for Kishtwar/Chenab region, with the Council seeking a dedicated institutional mechanism to address the unique developmental, geographical and administrative needs of the remote and hilly areas.

The Senior Citizens Council urged MP Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo to raise these issues in Parliament and pursue them with the concerned Union Ministries so that the long-standing developmental needs of Kishtwar receive due attention. MP Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo assured the delegation that he would certainly raise and discuss these demands in Parliament and take up the issues with the concerned authorities.

The Council expressed hope that these demands would be taken up on priority in the interest of the people and the overall development of District Kishtwar.

Court Orders Inspection of Tehsildar Sopore’s Vehicle Over Alleged Beacon, Siren Use

Srinagar, Aug 24th: The Special Mobile Magistrate (Traffic), Kashmir, has directed SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir to physically inspect the official vehicle of Tehsildar Sopore Tariq Ahmad Sheikh following allegations of unauthorised use of a red beacon/warning light and multi-toned siren.

The directions were passed by Special Mobile Magistrate Shabir Ahmad Malik on an application filed by Muzaffar Ahmad, who alleged that the vehicle was fitted with signalling equipment in violation of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and applicable provisions in J&K.

The Court, after examining the application, screenshots and other material, observed that a prima facie case warranted verification of the allegations.

Referring to the Supreme Court judgment in Abhay Singh v. State of Uttar Pradesh, AIR 2014 SC 427, the Court noted that unrestricted beacon use had been deprecated for fostering a VIP culture contrary to the rule of law.

SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir has been directed to ascertain whether the vehicle carries a red/blue beacon or multi-toned siren and whether their use has valid legal authorisation. Any unauthorised equipment found is to be removed or seized and appropriate action initiated.

The SSP has also been directed to submit a compliance report with photographs within two weeks.

Tehsildar Sopore has been asked to appear personally or through counsel on the next date and show cause why proceedings under the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules should not be initiated.

Farooq Abdullah: All Members Want Ministerial Berths, But Only Three Can Be Accommodated

National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has said that the party is facing a challenge in accommodating all its members in the cabinet, as many of them want to become ministers.
According to the statement featured in the image, Abdullah said that only three people can be made ministers, while all 40 members cannot be accommodated.

He also said that he does not have any favourite faces and that “everyone is equal to me.”
The remarks come amid discussions over cabinet expansion and the allocation of ministerial berths, with the party leadership facing expectations from several members seeking representation in the government.
