Mehbooba M***i Writes To HM Amit Shah

I’ve appealed to Shri Amit Shah ji to view Yasin Malik’s case through a humanitarian lens. While I differ with his political ideology, one cannot ignore the courage it took him to renounce violence and choose the path of political engagement and non violent dissent .

*Sewa Parv 2025 Day 03: District Kishtwar Hosts Disaster Management Drills, Health Camps & Awareness Rallies*

Kishtwar, September 19:

As part of the ongoing Sewa Parv 2025 celebrations, under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma(JKAS), a series of impactful activities and awareness programs were organized across District Kishtwar today, focusing on disaster management, health, fisheries, nutrition, community welfare and others.

The SDRF team conducted a Disaster Management Demonstration and Workshop on fire safety at GHSS Kishtwar. The session included live demonstrations on fire evacuation, handling extinguishers, and adopting preventive safety measures. Mock drills on earthquakes, fire, and other emergencies were also carried out to equip students with practical knowledge and preparedness.

The Health Department organized snakebite awareness drives across the district, where health staff educated people about timely medical assistance, avoiding harmful traditional practices, and preventive measures. Alongside, medical check-up camps were also held.

The Fisheries Department launched outreach programs for the fishing community, spreading awareness about government welfare schemes like PMMSY, HADP, KCC, and ATMA support services. The initiative encouraged fishermen to avail scheme benefits for socio-economic empowerment.

The Municipal Council Kishtwar conducted awareness among street vendors regarding registration under the PM SVANidhi Scheme to ensure their inclusion in livelihood benefits.

Meanwhile, a spirited anti-drug and anti-tobacco rally was organized at HS Sigdi Bhata under the theme “Say No to Drugs, Say No to Tobacco.”

The ICDS Department carried out multiple activities under Sewa Parv and Poshan Maah. These included sensitization sessions on reducing sugar, salt, and oil intake to combat obesity, father-led complementary feeding recipe competitions, and community pledges on nutrition.

Similar activities were held across Sub-Division, Tehsil, and Block levels by Health, RDD, ICDS, Forest, Education, Social Welfare, and Agriculture departments, ensuring widespread participation and awareness.

The day’s events highlighted the spirit of Sewa Parv 2025—uniting communities through awareness, preparedness, and collective responsibility for a healthier, safer, and more resilient society.

During Disasters, SDRF stood on frontlines everywhere: Imtiyaz Hussain

Srinagar, Sep 19: Director State Disaster Response Force Imtiyaz Hussain on Friday praised the role of SDRF personnel and Civil Defence volunteers, saying their commitment was visible during every crisis, particularly during floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

“During disasters, you saw SDRF everywhere, our people, our boats, always on the frontlines,” Hussain said while addressing a six-day disaster preparedness training programme.

He said SDRF and Civil Defence volunteers deserved congratulations for their dedication, adding that their presence had brought relief and confidence to people in times of calamity.

Hussain also said that such training courses were vital as disasters had become a recurrent challenge due to global climatic changesl“This training will not only help you in big disasters but also in daily life accidents like fire, a child falling from stairs, or a kitchen cylinder blast,” he said, adding that the training will make communities more prepared.

Calling for maximum participation of departments like medical, social welfare, police, home guards, fire services, and those with community outreach such as teachers and Anganwadi workers, he said disaster preparedness was a collective responsibility.

Hussain lauded the support of the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) department and expressed hope that the collaboration would further strengthen SDRF in preventing and managing disasters effectively.
