Goals, Grit and Young
Promise at Kashiabagaan

Staff Reporter: The 12th matchday of the AIFF-approved Gostha Paul Champions Blue Cubs League, organised by the Central Calcutta Gostha Paul Memorial Sporting Club, unfolded in lively fashion at the Park Circus Kashiabagaan Ground, with five matches offering a blend of tight contests, high-scoring encounters and glimpses of emerging talent.
The day began with a closely fought draw between Jorhat Athletic Club and Barisha Jugajatri Junior Football Coaching Camp, the teams sharing the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate after an evenly balanced contest marked by brisk passing and disciplined defending. The second fixture followed a similar script, as Park Circus Sarat Memorial Sporting Club and Jagacha Dwip Football Welfare Association played out an entertaining 3-3 draw, both sides refusing to yield ground in a game that swung end to end.
Clear dominance was on display in the third match, where Ratna Ahalya Abinash Smriti Sangha stamped its authority with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Shanti Aich Mallik Football Coaching Camp. Sharp movement in attack and quick transitions proved decisive as Ratna Ahalya steadily pulled away. That momentum carried into the fourth fixture, with Dream Football Coaching Camp producing the biggest win of the day, overwhelming The Sunday Club 6-1 through relentless pressing and clinical finishing.
The final match delivered the most drama. In a high-scoring contest, Park Circus Sarat Memorial Sporting Club edged past Khudiram Bose Football Academy 4-3, holding their nerve in the closing minutes to seal a hard-earned win and draw applause from the stands.
The league now moves to the historic Oriental Seminary School Ground, associated with Rabindranath Tagore, where the next set of matches will be played on January 11. As the competition gathers pace, the Blue Cubs League continues to underline its role as a vital platform for nurturing young footballers and sustaining Kolkata’s grassroots football culture.

Blue Cubs Find Warmth in Winter Football

On a cold Kolkata morning, when breath hangs briefly in the air and the city moves a shade slower, two football grounds came alive with youthful urgency. At Vivekananda Udyan in central Kolkata and the Oriental Seminary School Ground in the north, the eleventh matchday of the Gostha Paul Champions Blue Cubs League unfolded with a reminder that winter rarely dulls footballing passion in this city.
Organised by the Central Calcutta Gosto Pal Memorial Sporting Club and conducted under the approval of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the league has steadily grown into a significant platform for grassroots football. On this day, it was not just about results, but about rhythm, instinct and the early shaping of footballing habits among the youngest aspirants.
The Under-10 matches at Vivekananda Udyan offered a blend of raw enthusiasm and emerging discipline. Ichapur Shivaji Sangha Football Academy set the tone with a confident win, while Jhorhat Athletic Club underlined its growing cohesion with a composed performance. There were moments of chaos and control in equal measure—tight contests, late goals and draws that felt earned rather than settled. For many of the players, these were early lessons in game management as much as skill expression.
Across the city at Oriental Seminary School Ground, the Under-12 fixtures took on a different character. The football was bolder, the passing quicker, and the scorelines heavier. High-scoring encounters reflected an attacking instinct encouraged rather than restrained. Gostha Paul Football School’s emphatic win stood out, as did the resilience shown in closely fought draws that kept the sidelines engaged till the final whistle.
Parents wrapped in shawls, coaches pacing touchlines, and volunteers ensuring smooth transitions between matches formed the quiet backdrop to the action. It was a scene familiar yet reassuring—of a football culture sustained not by spectacle, but by continuity.
As the league prepares to move to Kashiyabagan Football Ground, Park Circus, on January 10, the Blue Cubs League continues to reaffirm its purpose. In nurturing competition at the most formative levels, it keeps alive a tradition that Kolkata football has long cherished: that the future is built patiently, one cold morning at a time.

A Grand Felicitation Ceremony for Robin Bolde

A grand felicitation ceremony was organized by the Medical Service Centre and Central Calcutta Gosto Pal Memorial Sporting Club in honor of Mr. Robin Bolde — a tireless warrior for the environmental movement, a proud son of a poor family from the remote village of Taldi in the Canning subdivision of the Sundarbans, former captain of the Indian water polo team, and a recently victorious and exceptionally brave swimmer who crossed the Palk Pranali, Sri Lanka.

The ceremony was graced by several eminent personalities including former captain and coach of the Bengal women’s football team Mrs. Ranjana Chatterjee, President of the Forum for Sports Persons of India Dr. Ashok Samanta, Vice President of Medical Service Centre and former Member of Parliament Dr. Tarun Mondal, Dr. Bigyan Kumar Bera, social worker Mr. Ajay Chatterjee, club president Mr. Aysanul Haque, secretary Mr. Samsul Alam, and chief coach of Central Calcutta Gosto Pal Memorial Sporting Club, Zulfiqar Ali Dada, among others.

The ceremony began with a floral welcome offered by Dr. Ashok Samanta and Mr. Ayasanul Haque. A gift was presented by Mrs. Ranjana Chatterjee, and the felicitation plaque (manpatra) was handed over by Dr. Tarun Mondal.

In his speech, Dr. Ashok Samanta said:
"From the first day I spoke to him, I realized he was moving forward with strong determination. His love for the poor people of his village was sincere, and he always ensured that local boys and girls were encouraged in sports. Such resolve will help him cross the English Channel too. I hope he returns home in good health."

Former MP Dr. Tarun Mondal added:
"I’ve known Robin since my time as an MP. Apart from sports, he has been deeply involved in various social activities. His leadership in organizing medical camps for the poor is highly commendable. We are confident he will successfully cross the English Channel as well. By doing so, he will bring pride not only to the nation but especially to the people of West Bengal."

Everyone present lauded the extraordinary struggles Robin Balde has overcome despite living in poverty, praising his perseverance and achievements.

In an emotional voice, Robin Balde said during his speech:
"I sincerely thank the Medical Service Centre and Central Calcutta Gostho Pal Memorial Sporting Club. The courage and encouragement they have given me through this felicitation is something I will never forget. I want to send a message to the people of the world through my attempt to cross the English Channel — that as our environment faces destruction, it is time for everyone to step up to protect it. Save the mangroves, protect the Sundarbans."

The entire event was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Tarun Mondal, Vice President of the Medical Service Centre and former MP
