To watch the cloud shadows move across the bare yellow mountains is not a dream anymore and I cannot explain just how connected to the universe this makes you feel, how insignificant and important this makes you feel at the same time.
This landscape is primal, it's primitive, it's ancient and wise.

I have been standing here for the longest time that I can think of. I don’t remember the first leaves or the first branch; I only remember the growing. It feels like I’ve always looked like this, forever. Like I was never a weak little sapling, never a lanky young one with form and structure. I only remember them telling me, “grow, grow” and I made it my life’s only purpose. For things like us, beauty was not in how we looked but in how far we could stretch and expand. They also said to not fly too high, grow beneath the soil as much as above. I spread my roots beneath in darkness like they spread their wings to the sun. I had to be rooted, I had to be grounded. I spread them till it came out of everywhere. Above where they were once leaves, were now roots. One ugly, hot mess of entangled wires snuffing out the air. But that, is my beauty. I tamed them into long strong braids, shaping them into a huge swing stretching from the far east to the west. I felt pride in thinking how many birds would come and sing to an orange sky on my swing; how they would go back and tell stories of my braided swing to their friends and how, they’d always come back for more. But one day, came along this little girl with a candy in hand. I invited her to my swing, not knowing my limits. I was way past questioning my strengths, of course I took it for granted. The little girl climbed up and then she fell. She fell hard, broke her candy. But my braid snapped; the swing was gone. All roots hanging to dear life by a thread of leaves. I’m shocked at my incapacity, I can see my naked weakness, I can see the facade of strength that I built. They tell me to suture the bonds, build again, grow, grow. But I am tired. I think I will stop now. Maybe tomorrow I will feel differently.

These three hours spent at the mouth of the Spirit Lahaul scape was enough to imprint an unquenchable desire in us to visit and stay here as soon as possible.

A day of great walks, entering the picture perfect village of Goshal, watching painting-like trees, the flood broken highway and finishing with an absolutely wholesome meal from Kyaroo House, thanks to the recommendation from !

has got to be one of our most favourite eatery places in all of Manali. We went back 2 more times to satiate ourselves!
