May the goddess Lakshmi shower you with her blessings of wealth, prosperity and happiness.
প্রার্থনা করি মা লক্ষীর আশীর্বাদে সকলের জীবনে ভরে উঠুক সুখ, সমৃদ্ধি, শান্তি, ভালোবাসা ও সৌভাগ্য।
Kojagori Lokkhi Pujo is a festival that celebrates the goddess Lakshmi, who is the deity of wealth and prosperity in Hinduism. It is observed on the full moon day of Ashwin, which usually falls in October or November. The name Kojagori comes from the Bengali words 'Ke Jago Re', meaning 'who is awake', as it is believed that Lakshmi visits the homes of her devotees at night and blesses those who stay awake and worship her.
The history of Kojagori Lokkhi Pujo is related to the harvest season when farmers thank Lakshmi for the abundance of crops and grains. Some also believe that it is a continuation of the ancient tradition of worshipping the moon god on the full moon night, as the moon is considered to be a symbol of beauty, purity and prosperity.
The rituals of Kojagori Lokkhi Pujo vary from region to region but generally involve cleaning and decorating the house, drawing alpana or rangoli patterns on the floor with rice flour paste, lighting lamps and candles, offering flowers, fruits, sweets and kheer (rice pudding) to Lakshmi, chanting mantras and hymns, and performing aarti. Some people also keep a Kalash (pot) filled with water and rice grains near the idol or picture of Lakshmi, as it is said to represent her presence. Some also feed Brahmins and poor people as a way of expressing gratitude and generosity.
Kojagori Lokkhi Pujo is a popular festival in West Bengal, Assam, Odisha and eastern Bihar, celebrated with great devotion and joy. It is also observed in some parts of Nepal and Bangladesh. It is considered to be an auspicious occasion to seek Lakshmi's blessings for wealth, happiness and well-being.
