Condemned to Watch the Sun Burn—
By Sayan Guha

You have the strength between the devil and the scarred god,
Between the warrior and the coward—
As here you stand transfixed in avatars of fear and wrath,
Wearing your boots of conviction and uniform of power,
Cocking your gun of language and readying your horses for the hour.

Now you're out from the gilded courtyards of fatuous dreams
Into the territories of wilderness and war,
Where savage is the true God of humanity holding up its palm,
Cursing and beckoning us all to the march of an infernal dawn.

As we march forward in the reckoning of life
And bow our heads to the death of silent birds
Falling like burning leaves on the sere savannas of our hearts,

Humanity assembles like a gathering storm
beneath the vast judgement of the sky and
before the quiet testament of the sea—

As we all
Stand here condemned to count
the death of stars,
behold the heavens fall
And watch the sun burn—
For eternity.

By Sayan Guha

You have the strength between the devil and the scarred god,
Between the warrior and the coward—
As here you stand transfixed in avatars of fear and wrath,
Wearing your boots of conviction and uniform of power,
Cocking your gun of language and readying your horses for battle;
For in this fragile hour fear is your friend,
And fire your silent saddle.

Now you're out from the gilded courtyards of fatuous dreams
Into the territories of wilderness and war,
Where savage is the true God of humanity holding up its palm,
Blessing and cursing us all with the march of an infernal dawn.

As we march forward in the reckoning of life

The Long Road Metaphor — By Sayan Guha

Across the centuries, in countless works, it has appeared—
From Frost to Rossetti, many times before and after
Shakespeare—
The metaphor of the long road, the long walk of life,
Whose beauty and dred through the years have poets endeared.

The road
Where curiosity, like an eager child, runs
On the bare feet of loitering woes,
Where wonder flies on ghostly wings of whispering truths,
Where hope burns in the dying embers
Of wars and decembers,
Where faith covers your head
Like an old man’s brown hat
And remembers—

Yet between the old woods
And behind the cackle of leaves where fears retire,
Where memories fly in your hair like a lingering zephyr,
And dirt clogs beneath your feet
With the weight of a blossoming ire,
The long road hangs like a sharpened edge
Above the trembling neck
Of an endless, cold mire.

It drapes from the aging boughs of the long road
And settles on the brows of young and old.
The road itself is art—
Where the literature of religions is erected in trees
That stand like condescending tombs
On the ruins of mortality;
It is a song that vibrates in the veins of leaves,
And cinema that flickers through the branches of trees.

Because indeed life is a long walk
Under this unforgiving cerulean constitution
A flowing montage of morphing seasons
Because indeed life is a long road
Out from the womb of Eden
And into the collage of reason.

The Artifacts Of Love— By Sayan Guha

the artifacts of love are delicately poised—

in the overtures of the heart
in the cinema of the face
in the theatre of the eyes
in the prologue of the smile
in the festival of the ears
in the catastrophe of the cheeks
in the opera of a stumble
in the literature of a fumble

Like brittle cutlery
teetering on the head and open palms
of a clown
crossing the tightrope of action
between heaven and hell,
beneath the blue sky of choice, and
above the dire pits of consequence.

But I Am Not Actually—
By Sayan Guha

I am a knot
caught
between am and actually.

But I began with
and—
now I am
in the middle.

But
I am not
actually.

Child's Smile(expanded)—
By Sayan Guha

Two thin edges move and slide
cosms fold, stars burn
planets combine
rubbing thighs, matter and time
melting
into shapes of dark and light
galaxies dancing

the break of a smile
on the lips of a child
two soft edges
where universes collide

And our world is born
there
between those dual lines
sculpted in shadow and light
like Big Bangs blooming
in the corners of a smile.

Marie Harris Myriam Ghezaïl Ben Brahim: Thank you for this extraordinary honor. It is rare to find such warmth in the vast hum of the city, and we are deeply humbled to be the recipients of it. You’ve given the Dozing Doves a reason to keep the 'ON' switch flipped(if you don't know what the 'ON' switch is about —follow our page 🤗)
Profoundly grateful doesn't quite cover it, but it’s a start. Congratulations to our writer Sayan Guha and warm regards for all the fellow participants from the bottom of our hearts! 🤗❤️🕊️
