It is with immense pride that we announce Beline’s screening at the prestigious 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), featured in the Asian Competition Segment. While it is unfortunate that no Indian delegates will be attending the festival this year, the screening of our film alongside other notable Indian productions like Padatik, In The Belly of a Tiger, Clerk, and Swaha stands as a powerful testament to the transcendence of cinema beyond physical borders and personal presence.

For Beline, this is not just a screening—it is a moment of profound significance. It marks the recognition of a story that delves into solitude and the complexities of the human mind, echoing themes that are both personal and universal. To have this narrative acknowledged on an international platform speaks volumes about the power of Indian independent cinema to resonate with audiences across cultures and geographies.

This year’s Indian entries at DIFF represent a well-balanced creative depth and diversity, showcasing our ability to push boundaries in storytelling. Even without the presence of delegates, the films themselves become ambassadors of our collective artistry, proving that authentic narratives need no intermediaries to connect with hearts.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the DIFF for honouring Beline and Indian cinema. This moment is a victory not just for us but for every filmmaker committed to crafting stories that transcend limitations and celebrate the universality of human experiences. Here’s to the enduring spirit of storytelling that knows no boundaries!

Why should you watch Beline?
Beline, a Bengali psychological thriller by visionary director Samik Roy Choudhury, invites you on an unforgettable journey through the fragile boundaries of reality and delusion. A masterfully crafted exploration of the human psyche, the movie compels audiences to confront the fractured nature of memory, the seductive allure of delusion, and the eroding edges of reality.

The story follows an ageing protagonist played by the remarkable Paran Bandyopadhyay, whose quiet retirement life unravels into a nightmare of fragmented memories and unsettling revelations. As the lines between reality and illusion blur, Beline immerses viewers in a labyrinth of suspense and surrealism.

✨ What makes Beline exceptional:
🔹 Non-linear storytelling interwoven with dreamlike sequences.
🔹 Evocative cinematography that uses light and shadow to mirror the tension.
🔹 A hauntingly beautiful score, heightening the emotional resonance of every scene.
🔹 Powerful performances that embody raw vulnerability and the deep struggles of the human mind.

This is not merely a film; it’s an experience. With its unique narrative style and symbolic imagery, Beline is a poignant reminder of cinema’s ability to illuminate the darkest corners of the human soul.

Dear Dhaka. Step into the world of Beline and prepare to be challenged, unsettled, and ultimately transformed.

Squid Game Season 2 Let’s break down what these symbolisms really mean for the sharp-eyed and curious fans.
☄️The Power in Masks: Ever noticed how those creepy masks are more than just fashion statements?
☄️Workers’ Masks: The shapes—circles, triangles, and squares—define rank. Circles are the newbies doing grunt work, triangles hold the guns, and squares are the managers bossing everyone around. It’s hierarchy, simplified.
☄️The Front Man's Mask: This one’s extra fancy, reminding everyone who’s really in charge. Think of it as the ultimate “I’m the boss” move.
☄️Colors That Speak Volumes
Green vs. Pink: The players’ green tracksuits versus the guards’ hot pink uniforms scream oppression versus power. It’s a brutal reminder of the divide between the haves and the have-nots.
☄️Lighting Effects: From harsh fluorescents in game zones to soft, emotional hues in personal moments, the lighting alone tells half the story.
☄️Games From Your Childhood, Turned Deadly
Just like in Season 1, the games are childhood classics gone dark. It’s a brilliant metaphor for lost innocence and how the simple joys of life are crushed by the weight of greed and survival.
☄️Player Numbers Have a Point
Each player’s number feels random, but it’s actually about stripping away identity. You’re not a name, just a cog in the cruel game of survival.
☄️New Character, Bold Statement
Season 2 introduces Hyung-ju, a transgender character, and it’s not just for show. It’s a sharp commentary on how marginalized communities fight for a place in a society that barely acknowledges them.
☄️The Set Designs Are Next-Level
The game arenas are like something out of a dystopian dream: confusing, surreal, and straight-up terrifying. They’re meant to trap not just bodies, but minds too.
☄️Animal Masks = Predators in Power: The VIPs wear masks of animals, each symbolizing greed, ruthlessness, or dominance. It’s the show’s way of saying, “Here’s what unchecked power looks like—ugly.”
☄️The doll was robotic, programmed with sensors to detect movement during filming. It was so lifelike that even the actors were unnerved while filming.

More Behind-the-Scenes Trivia and Technical Facts About Squid Game series.

☄️Many of the sets, including the playground for “Red Light, Green Light,” the colorful staircases, and the tug-of-war platform, were real, not CGI.
☄️The massive doll used in the first game was an actual prop, constructed to be as intimidating as possible.
☄️For the Dalgona candy game, the crew hired a professional candy maker to prepare authentic Dalgona candies. The actors practiced breaking them carefully, as the fragile texture was true to life.
☄️The set design of the neighborhood in the marbles game was inspired by traditional Korean villages, lending an uncanny feeling of nostalgia amidst the chaos. The lighting used mimicked soft, late-afternoon sunlight to evoke a false sense of calm.
☄️During intense moments, the camera was often handheld to amplify the raw emotions, such as in the glass bridge game. The shakiness mirrored the players' fear and instability.
☄️Wide-angle shots were frequently used to highlight the scale of the games and the players’ vulnerability within the massive spaces.
☄️The guards’ bright pink suits and the players’ green tracksuits were deliberately chosen to contrast starkly, symbolizing the power imbalance. The colors also created a visually striking palette, adding to the surreal atmosphere.
☄️The ticking sound in the background during games like “Red Light, Green Light” was layered with faint heartbeats to heighten the audience’s anxiety.
☄️Traditional Korean children’s songs were slowed down and distorted, turning innocent tunes into haunting motifs.
☄️Actors were harnessed for safety but had to pull with full force to make the tension realistic. The platform was mechanically controlled to tilt at specific intervals, simulating the fall.
☄️For the glass bridge, the lighting was adjusted to create reflective illusions, making it harder for the actors to identify tempered glass pieces. This added genuine suspense to their performances.
☄️Squib packs (miniature explosive devices) were used for realistic blood splatter during violent scenes. Special care was taken to ensure actors weren’t harmed, with detailed rehearsals for every stunt.

The desert storm in "Lagaan" is a testament to the team’s ingenuity and perseverance. Filmed in Bhuj, Gujarat, natural winds were insufficient, so industrial blowers from Mumbai were modified with custom nozzles to create the storm. Fine powdered clay was spread across the set to replicate dense dust clouds, which lingered in the air for dramatic effect but caused respiratory issues for the cast and crew.

To capture the storm’s intensity, diffused lighting rigs with colored gels were used to mimic sunlight filtering through thick dust, while sound effects combined recorded winds and digitally manipulated sandblasting noises. Synchronizing multiple blowers was a challenge, requiring precise timing to maintain consistency without creating hazards.

The sequence took 15 grueling days to film in 45°C heat, with the cast and crew often covered in layers of dust. Safety measures like goggles and masks were issued to the crew, but actors had to perform without them, adding to the difficulty.

Producer Aamir Khan supervised the shoot and post-production, blending practical effects with subtle digital enhancements to amplify the storm’s scale. The harsh conditions led to several crew members quitting, but those who stayed delivered one of Lagaan’s most iconic moments.

This storm sequence epitomizes the film’s dedication to realism and stands as a masterpiece of problem-solving and perseverance in Indian cinema, capturing audiences worldwide with its raw intensity and authenticity.
