During his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 26, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a powerful and confrontational speech warning about the threat of radical Islamist terrorism. Netanyahu challenged the audience with a rhetorical pop quiz, asking, "Who shouts death to America?" and "Who has murdered Americans and Europeans in cold blood?" aiming to highlight the dangers posed by radical Islamists.
He framed Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas and other militant groups as part of a broader fight against extremist forces that seek to drag humanity "back to the dark ages." Netanyahu emphasized that Israel is fighting this battle on behalf of the world, calling on nations to stand with Israel against terrorism.
Is Israel justified in preventing Palestinian statehood efforts?

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was confronted by an Indian journalist over cross-border terrorism just before his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 26, 2025. When asked when Pakistan would stop cross-border terrorism, Sharif claimed, "We are defeating cross-border terrorism. We are defeating them."

Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, delivered a sharp and forthright response to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claims of victory in the recent India-Pakistan conflict during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Gahlot dismissed Sharif’s assertion of “we won the war” as a delusional and bizarre distortion of facts. She reminded the assembly that during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s military pleaded for a ceasefire after its airbases were heavily damaged by Indian forces.
Gahlot accused Pakistan of glorifying terrorism, highlighting Islamabad’s long-standing role in sheltering terrorist groups, including Osama bin Laden, and shielding militant outfits such as The Resistance Front, responsible for deadly attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. She challenged Sharif’s call for dialogue by stressing that Pakistan must first dismantle terror camps and hand over terrorists wanted by India.
Is Pakistan trying to cover up for heavy losses by claiming victory?

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee clapped as TMC leader Madan Mitra sang the song “There’s Kaba in my heart and Medina in my eyes” during the inauguration of a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata. This sparked fierce reactions and criticism, particularly from the BJP, which accused Mamata and the TMC of appeasement politics and undermining Hindu traditions by allowing an Islamic-themed song during a Hindu festival.
In response to the controversy, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) banned the theme of "Operation Sindoor" for Durga Puja pandals in West Bengal, aiming to avoid further political backlash. The decision has stirred further debate over the intersection of religion, politics, and cultural festivals in the state.
The incident has become a flashpoint amid ongoing cultural and political tensions in West Bengal during the Durga Puja season.
Can this be termed as an inclusive gesture by Mamata for social harmony?

An artist in Baharampur, India, created a highly controversial portrait depicting Bangladeshi Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and former U.S. President Donald Trump as ‘Asur,’ a demon figure in Hindu mythology. The artwork, displayed during Durga Puja festivities, sparked widespread outrage and intense political and cultural backlash across both India and Bangladesh. Critics condemned the demonic portrayal of two prominent leaders, viewing it as disrespectful and provocative amid sensitive regional relations. The incident highlights the tension between artistic expression and cultural respect, with heated debates emerging over the appropriateness of politicized depictions in public art.
Should artists prioritize social responsibility over provocative expression?

Modi's India is the reason Pakistan needs nuclear weapons: Hina Rabbani Khar
In an interview with GZERO Media, former Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar reflected on her country’s longstanding nuclear policy and its relevance in the current geopolitical environment.
Responding to the often-asked question of why Pakistan chose to become a nuclear power instead of focusing on its economy and well-being by investing more in education and development, Khar admitted that she once questioned this approach herself.
She recalled how Pakistanis were “reduced to eating grass” in their country's pursuit of nuclear capability, and how at the time it seemed like a misplaced priority to her.
However, Khar argued that her view had changed with the rise of what she described as “Modi’s India” driven by Hindutva ideology, and that, in this respect, the strategic foresight of Pakistan’s past leaders had proven significant.
She asserted that this new India’s belief that it can launch attacks “whenever and wherever it feels” in the region underlines the importance of Pakistan’s nuclear deterrent. According to Khar, it is this deterrence that ensures Pakistan’s security today against potential aggression from its neighbour.
Is Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program primarily a necessary deterrent against India?

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has criticised Indian players for refusing to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts during the Asia Cup 2025, saying the act undermined the spirit of the game.
In an interview with ANI, Tharoor emphasised that sports should not be mixed with politics or conflict, noting that cricket has its own spirit which should remain distinct from tensions between nations and their militaries.
""I personally feel that once the decision was made to play, if we feel so strongly about Pakistan, then we should not have played them at all. But if we are going to play, we should play in the spirit of the game and shake hands. We did this even in 1999 during the Kargil War, when soldiers were dying on the frontlines, and yet we shook hands with Pakistan during the World Cup in England,"" he said.
"If the Pakistani team, having been insulted the first time, decides to insult us back the second time, it just shows the spirit of the game is lacking on both sides. But certainly, we need not have initiated it in a negative way. Once we decided to play them, we should have played them like normal," he added.

Will 'walkouts' have any impact on Gaza's fate?
Dozens of delegates walked out of the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York on Friday, September 26, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his address, in which he staunchly defended Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.
The walkout underscored the growing international division over Israel’s actions, with Netanyahu insisting that Israel “must finish the job” against Hamas.
The walkout came shortly before Netanyahu’s remarks, which were punctuated by visual aids, including a map labelled "THE CURSE," which he marked with a large pen. He also attached a QR code to his jacket, directing the audience to a site detailing the October 7 atrocities by Hamas.
Despite the protest, the US delegation remained seated, offering quiet applause as Netanyahu spoke. The Israeli leader reiterated his commitment to dismantling Hamas, framing the war as a battle against them and the only path to security for Israel.
In a controversial move, Netanyahu announced that the Israeli military would soon take control of Gaza residents' mobile phones to broadcast his message. The plan, which Israel called "unprecedented," aims to spread information about the conflict directly to those affected.

In a podcast clip, political strategist and now party founder Prashant Kishor is asked whether private companies should also implement caste‑based reservation. Kishor pushes back on the framing: he argues that the public discourse over reservation is narrowly focused on the small slice of people (he says maybe ~2 %) who are employed in public agencies. Even if private firms adopt reservations (which in his view could cover another ~30 %), that still leaves 60–70 % of the population untouched by any systemic redress.
