We are delighted to announce that JUP has acquired its first Spanish-Bengali translation right, of the Colombian writer Laura Ortiz Gomez's 2021 collection of short stories 'Sofoco', published by Laguna Libros, and to be translated into Bengali by Mousumi Ghosh.

Laura Ortiz Gómez (Bogota, 1986) studied literature at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She has worked as a reading and writing promoter in various spaces throughout Colombia. She completed a Master's degree in creative writing at UNTREF in Argentina. She received a Becas scholarship (for Colombians undergoing artistic and cultural training abroad) from the Colombian Ministry of Culture in 2019 and won the Antonio Di Benedetto Scholarship. In 2022, she participated in the Jan Michalski Foundation's writing residency in Montricher, Switzerland. Sofoco, her first book of short stories, won the 2020 Elisa Mújica National Fiction Prize. It was published in 2021 by Laguna Libros (Colombia). Sofoco has been published in Spain, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Italy. She has also written the non-fiction book Abrecaminos for the truth commission and the book Diario de Aterrizaje, published by Bosque Energético. She has contributed to various anthologies of Colombian short stories. In 2024 she published her first novel Indócil with Tusquets.
