Dachigam literally stands for 'ten villages', which is kept in memory of the ten villages that had to be relocated in order to create the catchment area and the park. Located in the Zabarwan range of Western Himalayas, Dachigam is a landscape of sharp contrast. If you are a trekker, then this park has great potential for exploration on foot. Jhari Waterfalls, also known as the Buttermilk Falls, is situated near Attigundi at a distance of 12 km from Baba Budangiri. It is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Chikmagalur district and one of the best tourist places in the district. This mesmerising falls surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations are created by the springs which originate in the mountains. Incidentally, one of the first things you are apt to notice when you enter the Lady Hydari Park that lies in the heart of Shillong City is the Japanese style garden. The round shapes of the hedges with circular design elements, willow trees with their leaves almost sweeping the ground and the numerous small ponds scattered all throughout the garden all have a distinct Japanese influence. The park has paved walkways that make it easy for visitors to stroll amongst the manicured lawns and admire the fast variety of flora including an impressive collection of rhodendrons and orchids. If you come to Shillong during winters or spring then spending a lazy afternoon in the Hyadari park lawns is the perfect way to relax. Many people tend to come back after visiting Dhankar Village and monastery. A very few people know that there is a beautiful lake on the other side of the mountain and to reach there you just have to trek for around an hour. Dhankar Lake takes you to a solitary beauty in the Spiti Valley. The lake presents you a jaw dropping scenery of a water body with turquoise blue water in it !! It spreads over a large area with crystal clear water in it! The color of the lake keeps on changing! It is surrounded by barren hills but stills provides an enough space at the bank as a camping site. The breathtaking expanse of cerulean waters set against the backdrop of snow covered peaks offers you a magnificent view of Manirang Peak, the highest peak of Himachal Pradesh. The beauty of the lake is spellbinding. If you spend enough time at the lake, you can see the sky change colors and reflect on the glassy lake. Alternatively referred to as Kshaid Wetden the beautiful waterfall that’s the source of so many tragic stories is ironically named “Sweet Falls”. These waterfalls are 315ft in height and are 5km away from Happy Valley. The route to the waterfall is not very well maintained and the falls are surrounded by slippery stones that make them dangerous to navigate. Unlike other tiered waterfalls in Meghalaya, the sweet falls is unbroken and resembles a thick rush of water falling from a very highly perched extra large drainage pipe. This is one of the steepest falls of Meghalaya and the water falls down with a tremendous force in the absence of rocks or anything else to break its flow. Naturally, the force of the water makes it impossible to bath or stand directly underneath the falls. Anyway, the beauty of the Sweet falls is best enjoyed from a distance as there are no barricades for protection. The area surrounding Sweet Falls is quite beautiful and is filled with trees like eupatorium, phegopteris, lantana, osmundastrum, rubus etc. Once you arrive at the falls, you will be pleasantly surprised to hear the chirping of hundreds of birds... for some reason birds seem to throng this place. If the occult or haunted stories intrigue you then don’t miss visiting the sweet falls. The locals firmly believe that the falls are haunted. In fact people say that “go in groups of odd numbers to the sweet falls and you will return in groups of even numbers”.
