China Discovers Massive Gold Deposit in Hunan
In late 2024, geologists confirmed a "supergiant" gold deposit in the Wangu gold field of Hunan Province, China. Surveys revealed over 40 gold-bearing veins reaching depths of about 6,600 feet (2,000 meters).
Early confirmed estimates suggest around 330 metric tons of gold ore, making it one of the largest deposits ever reported.
Researchers note the deposit's exceptionally rich concentrations, and projections suggest it could hold even more, though the full scale is still under study.
While questions remain about how much gold can be extracted economically, this discovery strengthens China's position as the world's leading gold producer and could have significant impacts on global mining and markets.
