2019 Oscars: Academy Awards nominations announced on January 22 by Tracee Ellis Ross and Kumail Nanjiani
Nominations for the 2019 Oscars will be announced on Tuesday morning (January 22) beginning at 5:20 a.m. PT/8:20 a.m. ET. Academy president John Bailey will be joined by Tracee Ellis Ross (“blackish”) and Oscar nominee Kumail Nanjiani (“The Big Sick”) on stage of the Samuel Goldwyn Theater at the academy’s headquarters in Beverly Hills, California for the two-part presentation.
Two years ago, the academy dropped this in-person reveal of the roster of nominees of in favor of a live stream of pre-taped announcements. Last year, it offered a hybrid, with nine actresses in taped segments introducing various categories. They were Priyanka Chopra, Rosario Dawson, Gal Gadot, Salma Hayek, Michelle Rodriguez, Molly Shannon, Rebel Wilson, Michelle Yeoh and Zoe Saldana.
This year, it looks like the nominees in all two dozen races will be revealed live. At 5:20 a.m. PT/8:20 a.m. ET, nominees will be announced in these nine categories: Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Costume Design, Film Editing, Original Score, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Animated Short Film and Live Action Short Film.
At 5:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. ET, the nominees will be announced in the remaining 15 categories: Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Song, Production Design, Visual Effects, Animated Feature, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Film and Foreign Language Film.
