We are a group of journalists, economists, doctors, environmentalists and men from other fields of art and science. Some of us have a political background but none of us is in politics now nor do we belong to any political party. We believe our total allegiance to our profession of journalism cannot be subordinated by any allegiance to any political party. The name of the weekly is Janaswartha Bar

The Janaswartha Barta will be run by Janaswartha Trust. This will be headed by Prof Sandip Das, Ex MLA, and now visiting professor of Institute of Gandhian Studies, Wardha and Vidyasagar University, Midnapore. The trust will be constituted by eminent persons of the society. India is now going through tumultuous times. Changes in every field are taking place all around us at a great speed -- in politics, economics, in the social field, in science and environment. Competing political ideologies and social objectives, models of development and their present and future impact on the people of this country – all these are being discussed and debated hotly. We believe that the media – print as well as electronic – are mostly controlled by the corporate and they purvey news and views from the corporate sector’s point of view. Other and opposite views hardly find any scope of expression. Even the coverage and presentation of news is hardly unbiased. In this background, we have decided to bring out news-and-views weekly named JANASWARTHA BARTA to provide an open forum for discussion by people from different fields as well as to reflect public opinion. We have three firm commitments: to objective journalism; to fight against communalism of all hues; and to support the struggle of the people all over the world to end all forms of exploitation and to create an egalitarian society. The task we have set ourselves is stupendous and we are aware of our limited resources. But we believe that with the help and cooperation of our friends and with their physical association in our endeavor, in any manner they choose, we shall be able to serve the people and act as a sentinel of people’s interests or JANASWARTHA.
