Today, on International Tiger Day, we celebrate the significance of tigers as a symbol of strength, grace, and the biodiversity of our planet. However, amidst the global rejoicing over the increase in tiger populations, it is crucial to acknowledge the sobering reality faced by our beloved big cats in North East India.

According to the "Status of Tigers Report 2022," in the Northeastern Hills and Brahmaputra Plains landscape, the number of distinctive tigers captured on camera decreased to 194 from an estimated 219 tigers in 2018. This unique genetic lineage requires our utmost conservation attention due to their low population size.

While we celebrate the success in some regions, it's crucial not to overlook the challenges faced by the tigers in the Northeast. The threats of habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict demand immediate action from the government and non-governmental organizations for long-term conservation.

On this day, let's unite and renew our commitment to protect and preserve our tigers. Transboundary tiger conservation strategies are essential to sustain isolated populations in the Northeastern Hills. We must work together to strengthen protected area management, intensify anti-poaching measures, and address the root causes of human-wildlife conflict.

Together, we can ensure a brighter future for tigers in North East India and around the world. Let's make a turning point in our efforts to safeguard these magnificent creatures and the habitats they call home. 🌏🐅 .
