Denjong Pema Choeling Academy, a Nursery to Class X ICSE School at , en route to Pemayangtse Monastery in West Sikkim stands tall since ages. And if you happen to pass by, make no mistake to visit the school run 41 year old Lotus Bakery, a rustic and quaint café by the roadside.

A little unexpected, but a 10 AM Tuesday morning visit to the Pelling’s oldest bakery didn’t find a solitary customer except my wife and myself. A small hut with a few round tables neatly placed in cluster welcomes you till I could find Vishaka Chakma, a little girl and a student of the school in charge of selling the stuff.

The bakery got freshly baked chocolate doughnuts, jam doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, sweet buns, loaf, cupcakes, cookies, chocolate croissant, and cream rolls. Price starts from INR 10 only!

All the items were buttery, delicious and economic. Though the product and packaging lacked the urban touch, quality-wise we couldn't find similar taste at the upmarket in central Pelling or Gangtok in spite of trying various bakeries. Loved the experience here

The 'Regimental Zaika' Food Festival is a fitting tribute to the Indian Army, offering a distinctive culinary experience.
