Watch Master Crafts from more than 35 countries at All Lights India International Film Festival ......
All Lights India International Film Festival and Indywood Film Market is all set to create history, being South Asia’s biggest film carnival. Kerala have never witnessed anything even close to it. The list of movies to be showcased in the festival was recently published in the festival website ( www.aliiff.com ), creating controversy and criticism. Among international movies from several countries, the festival will also showcase Indian movies. Bhajrangi Bhaijaan, Double Barrel and Iyobinte Pusthakam found place in the Special Screening category, which will be presented to viewers by their directors. There will also be a Q & A session with the Cast & Crew, an interactive session with the audience. There are several movies in the category including international classics like The Godfather, Cinema Paradiso, Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards, etc.
Selections in the festival was criticized by few young directors from Kerala, arguing that the festival is against art house movies and is promoting commercial movies like Double Barrel and Iyobinte Pusthakam. However the festival also has various Malayalam movies like My Life Partner, Cr No 89, Ottaal, Unto the Dusk and a set of Adoor movies as a tribute.
The organizers have strong reply to the controversy. One of the organizers told Metro Movie that the festival is aimed at showcasing movies with great craft and not pretentious movies made for festivals and awards. “We received many such films. Our process of selection was strictly on the basic of pure merit. We rejected many pretentious movies. Directors of such movies are trying to throw stones at us. Moreover movies like Double Barrel and Iyobinte Pusthakam are not under competition category. They’re in special screening. We appreciate their experimental value and believe that we can proudly present those movies to the international viewers. We must learn to appreciate such films in festivals rather than the so called ‘Award Cinemas’. We’ve movies of all genres and moods, but all of them are rich in substance and style. You can watch more than 135 master crafts from over 35 countries and if you love cinema, you’ll be highly satisfied. ” says the chief organizers.
The festival is all set to start its run from November 15th with Taxi as it’s opening movie and will be till 19th at Cinepolis, Central Mall, Kochi. Delegate pass will come at INR 500 and student pass for INR 300 and can watch unlimited movies. Daily pass is worth INR 180. You can register yourself at www.aliiff.com/register
