Can waste heal soil, create jobs, and generate income?
In South Kashmir, one engineer has shown that it can.
On a winter morning in Kulgam, Mohammad Aamir Khan paused by a heap of rotting garbage. “It wasn’t the first time I saw it, but something about that day stayed with me,” he recalls.
That moment grew into a movement. At just 30, Aamir is reshaping how South Kashmir views waste.
He began with a compost pit in 2023, turning kitchen scraps into Green Wave fertiliser now used by farmers across Kashmir.
In 2024, he launched Waste to Health, an online platform where families sell plastic waste that is recycled into industrial raw material.
By 2025, he even developed a method to spin polythene into thread, woven into eco-friendly Kashmiri bags and chadars.
“Nothing goes to waste in this world. If we innovate, we can turn it into an opportunity,” Aamir says.
Today, his model supports 4,000 households, provides income to families, enriches farms with local compost, employs 25 people, and has grown into an ₹80 lakh eco-enterprise.
