Damian Wayne Might Be the Real Future of James Gunn’s DC Universe
For months, all eyes have been on who will wear the cape and cowl in James Gunn’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold. But what if… the future of the entire DCU doesn’t belong to Bruce Wayne — but to his son, Damian Wayne?
Let’s connect the dots 👇
When Gunn revealed the Gods and Monsters slate, he made it clear he wasn’t starting over with origin stories. Superman: Legacy begins mid-career. Creature Commandos drops us into a world already full of heroes. And The Brave and the Bold introduces Batman with a son already in the picture. That’s no coincidence.
Damian Wayne isn’t just any Robin. He’s Bruce’s biological son — raised by the League of Assassins, trained by his mother Talia al Ghul, and torn between two worlds. He’s ruthless, brilliant, unpredictable, and destined for greatness.
If you know James Gunn’s storytelling style (Guardians of the Galaxy, Peacemaker), he loves stories about broken families, legacy, and redemption. And Damian’s story fits that mold perfectly — a boy shaped by shadows, trying to live up to a father who’s also broken by his own darkness.
This could be the long game for the DCU:
Phase 1 introduces Bruce and Damian.
Phase 2 explores their fractured bond.
And in Phase 3? Damian Wayne could become the next Batman.
That would make the DCU not just another reboot — but a living, evolving saga where legacy actually means something.
So maybe Gunn’s real plan isn’t to show us another Batman.
It’s to show us how the next generation becomes better than him.
🦇 What do you think? Should Damian Wayne become the future Batman of the DCU? Or should Bruce always stay in the suit?
