Lalabazar, June 7: A press conference was held today at Lalabazar by various Manipuri social organisations and community representatives. The participants strongly condemned the tragic assault that took place at Nalugaon in Patharkandi.
Among those present at the press conference were Nepram Monindra Singh, President of Thougan Marup; N. Bishwajit Singh of Leihoumi Lipun Lup; H. Monisana, President of MSPA Hailakandi District; social activists Langam Singh and Subashis Singh; and Bijen Singh, representative of Lala Presbyterian Church.
The leaders expressed their deep sorrow and anguish over the incident and conveyed their solidarity with the two injured teenagers and their families. They also stated that they are praying for the speedy recovery of the victims.
The speakers emphasized that such a brutal act cannot be justified under any circumstances and that those responsible should face legal action. At the same time, they expressed concern that certain content creators and social media users are attempting to portray the entire Manipuri community as being responsible for the incident.
They stated that it is highly irresponsible and undesirable to blame an entire community for the actions of one or two individuals. In the interest of maintaining peace and harmony in society, they appealed to everyone to express their views in a restrained and responsible manner.
On behalf of the organisations, an appeal was made to the administration to take necessary action against those who are spreading hatred, division, and tension in society and attempting to create unrest among the peace-loving people of the Barak Valley.
The organisations also demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the Nalugaon incident and urged the authorities to ensure strict and exemplary punishment for those found guilty.
In conclusion, the speakers called upon people of all communities to work together to preserve the long-standing tradition of communal harmony, brotherhood, and peaceful coexistence in the Barak Valley.
