Masarat Alam is new chairman of Hurriyat Conference.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Masarat Alam Butt has been appointed as the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

The announcement is made by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference at meeting in Srinagar, Radio Pakistan reported.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference announced Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar would be vice-chairmen while Moulvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani will continue to work as General Secretary of the amalgam, the report said.

Veteran separatist leader, former Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani no more.
Srinagar, Sep 01 :A top separatist leader and former Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani breathed his last at his Srinagar residence on Wednesday evening, sources said.

Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Geelani, 92, developed serious complications on Wednesday afternoon and breathed his last in this evening.

“He had chest congestion and breathing problems. He passed away at 10:30 PM,” they said.

Geelani was ailing for a long time and was under house detention since 2008 at his Hyderpora residence.

Last year, he announced his resignation as Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who was born on 29 September 1929, was a Kashmiri separatist leader in Jammu and Kashmir.

He was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He has served as the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a conglomerate of pro-separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir.

He was an MLA from Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and in 1987. He stepped down as the Hurriyat Conference Chief in June 2020— #

Minor girl among 2 killed as tractor turns turtle in Bandipora.

Bandipora, Aug 29 : Two persons including an eight-year-old girl were killed while another suffered minor injuries after a tractor turned turtle at Badyara-Ashtangoo village in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Sunday afternoon.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three persons in a tractor were heading towards their orchard when the tractor turned turtle on the bund of a local stream near the village, resulting in their injuries.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital Bandipora where two among them identified as Zubair Farooq (18), son of Farooq Ahmad Dar and Tabasum Jan (8), daughter of Ghulam Mohammed Ganie were declared brought dead.

As per official, another injured was identified as Refaq Rasheed.

Meanwhile, police team also reached the spot and have started an investigation into the incident
