Mustard fields as far as the eye can see. A Dhol that you feel in your chest before you hear it. Lassi so thick you have to work for it. Makki di roti straight off the fire. Bhangra that starts in the legs before the brain even decides.

This is Panjab. This is the harvest. This is Vaisakhi.

A season that has always brought Panjabi people back to themselves. Back to the land, back to each other, back to that raw, unfiltered joy that nobody does quite like us. The melas, the colours, the noise, the food, the dancing that goes on longer than it should. All of it rooted in something ancient and kept alive by people who refuse to let it fade.

put that whole feeling into every second of his debut track, ‘Vaisakhi Mela’, released back in 2010.

“Panjabis are grafters - there’s no denying that. But equally, we know how to have fun, how to enjoy life to the fullest, with friends and family. ‘Vaisakhi Mela’ takes us back to a time long forgotten, to yesteryear when we didn’t have smartphones, TV with 900 channels or Netflix.

The highlight of the month or year would be the Mela!
The laughs, the dancing, hanging out with our mates, the memories created!

The intro really sets the scene - two friends farming, leaving their duties of the day and heading off to enjoy the Mela. The song gives reference to Akhara culture, our folk dance - Bhangra, our Sikh heritage and even our cuisine!” - Jasjot Singh Ghuman

This one is for the soil. For the season. For every Panjabi who carries this in their blood wherever they go!

Happy Vaisakhi to all! 🌾

REST IN PEACE, DIPPA SAT-RANG 🕊️

Shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of one of the greatest to ever do it - DIPPA SAT-RANG.

Where do you even start with this powerhouse? Dippa Sat-Rang, Dippa Dosanjh, whatever you want to refer to him as, the energy he brought to his releases and on stage was unmatched.

Bringing to the scene that raw, instantly recognisable vocal, and a healthy catalogue of releases, most of which were often unfortunately overshadowed by the evergreen anthem that is ‘DHOLA VEH DHOLA’ produced by , with legendary percussion by . Go to any Bhangra Head or Bhangra music lover and ask them about Sat-Rang, guarantee you the first thing they’ll say is ‘Dhola Veh Dhola’. But there was so much more to DIPPA SAT-RANG!

With collaborations with the likes of , , and , to name a handful, Dippa’s tracks have become a staple on the dancefloor at every party!

The UK Bhangra scene and Panjabi music scene really has lost one of its core pillars.

A true gem 💎
