Showkat Pandit Urges J&K Lawmakers to Raise Issue of Daily Wager’s Death in Assembly
Langate, Oct 27: Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader and former BDC Chairman Langate, Showkat Hassan Pandit, has appealed to all members of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to raise the issue of daily wage workers who lose their lives while on duty.
Pandit said these workers serve shoulder-to-shoulder with permanent employees but are denied the basic rights and benefits they deserve. He called the matter a serious humanitarian concern that demands urgent attention from the government.
“Daily wagers work tirelessly to keep essential services running, yet their families are left helpless when tragedy strikes. It is time the Assembly adopts a joint resolution to ensure protection and welfare measures for their families,” Pandit said.
Referring to the latest incident, he expressed deep sorrow over the death of a daily wage worker, Javed Ahmad Paray, son of Mohammad Ramzan Paray, a resident of Ujroo Langate, who lost his life while on duty in the Power Development Department (PDD). Pandit said it was unfortunate that the department failed to provide any immediate assistance to the bereaved family.
He urged all legislators and the Chief Minister to honor their election promises and raise this issue in the ongoing Assembly session.
“Leaders across parties promised to speak for daily wagers during election campaigns. Now is the time to act, not just speak,” Pandit added.
