Drug Peddler Apprehended with He**in; Case Registered Under NDPS Act

Poonch, April 09, 2026

In a continued drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Police Station Poonch achieved a significant success by apprehending an individual involved in possession of narcotic substances.

A police party of PS Poonch, during routine naka checking, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK12A-4748. During the course of checking, one person identified as Gulnaz Ahmed S/o Ikhlaq Hussain R/o Fatehpur Mandi was found travelling in the said vehicle.

Upon search, approximately 7.70 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was immediately taken into custody and the contraband substance was seized on the spot as per legal procedures.

In this regard, FIR No. 56/2026 under relevant sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Poonch and investigation has been set into motion to ascertain further links, including the source and intended distribution network of the recovered contraband.

District Police Poonch remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urges the public to come forward with any information related to narcotics for the safety and well-being of society.

Request for Immediate release of Teachers’ Salaries
I, Sayed Mohd Yousaf Shah, district President Teachers Joint action Committee, district Poonch, respectfully urge the higher authorities of the Education Department, especially the Director School Education Jammu, respected Naseem Javad Choudhary Sahib, to ensure the immediate release of teachers’ salaries.
It is a matter of serious concern that after the retirement of the Chief Education Officer Poonch, no officer has yet been assigned the charge of DDO (Drawing and Disbursing Officer). As a result, the salaries of teachers have not been released till date.
Due to this delay, many teachers are facing severe financial hardships. A number of them have taken loans from banks, and the non-payment of salaries has added to their distress and difficulties.
Therefore, I humbly request that the DDO charge be assigned immediately and necessary steps be taken to release the pending salaries of teachers without any further delay.

Police Station Surankote Organizes Drug Awareness Programs in Multiple Villages

Poonch, April 09, 2026

As part of its continued initiative to combat the menace of drug abuse and promote legal awareness among the public, District Police Poonch, through Police Station Surankote, organized a series of Drug Awareness Programs in multiple villages, namely Bufliaz, Draba, Fazlabad, Pamrote, and Sangla, within its jurisdiction. The programs witnessed active participation from police officials and members of the local community.

The awareness drives focused on highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse and its adverse impact on youth, families, and society at large. Police officials sensitized participants about the ill-effects of narcotics, provisions of the NDPS Act, and the importance of reporting any suspicious activities related to drug peddling. Interactive sessions, discussions, and community pledges were also conducted to reinforce collective commitment towards a drug-free society.

The programs saw enthusiastic participation from youth, students, elders, and representatives of civil society, reflecting strong community engagement. Police officials urged citizens to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies and contribute towards maintaining peace, order, and a drug-free environment.

Speaking on the occasion, officials reiterated that such initiatives form an integral part of community policing efforts aimed at building trust and strengthening police-public relations.

Today, a farewell function was organized by the Court of Sub-Judge/Special Mobile Magistrate, Poonch along with its staff in honour of Mr. Mansoor Ahmed Khan, learned Public Prosecutor, on the occasion of his transfer. The function was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Poonch, Mr. Susheel Singh, who participated as the Chief Guest.
During the event, the Presiding Officer and the staff of the Court of Sub-Judge/Special Mobile Magistrate, Poonch, highlighted the valuable services rendered by Mr. Mansoor Ahmed Khan during his tenure.
