David Ornstein has now confirmed that Cody Gakpo has made his decision and opted to join Manchester City.

Despite Tottenham having a long-standing personal agreement in place with Gakpo since July, Man City’s late push successfully turned the player's head to win his signature.

Direct discussions between Liverpool and Manchester City are now advancing to finalize the exact structure of the transfer fee.

With Gakpo's exit path to the Etihad unlocked following the Bradley Barcola agreement, Liverpool are actively pivoting to seal their secondary attacking target (with inquiries already made for Crystal Palace's Ismaïla Sarr and Brighton's Yankuba Minteh) before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool hold a high valuation for Cody Gakpo, pricing the 27-year-old forward around the £70m–£75m mark—comparable to recent high-end winger market benchmarks.

Tottenham Hotspur maintain the longest-standing interest as their primary attacking target. However, Manchester City's recent entry into the race has blown the situation wide open ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Multiple UEFA Champions League clubs have made contact over the weekend to assess Gakpo's availability following Liverpool's deal in principle for Bradley Barcola.
