The battle for Assam enters its final stage with the counting of votes on Monday (May 4, 2026). According to the trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) as of 4 p.m., the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has begun registering early wins in the State after securing a lead in nearly 100 seats. The alliance needs wins in at least 64 seats which is the simple majority mark in the 126-member Assembly. Hojai district secures both seats of Hojai and Lumding.

Among the many folk festivals of Traditional Bengal, Charak Puja has a special place even in today’s modern age. Although it is celebrated predominantly in rural areas, the festival is till celebrated in some pockets of Lumding.

Hindus celebrate the festival mainly on the last day of the month of Chaitra.
Chaitra Sankranti begins on 14th April of every year. People observe fast during this period devoting themselves to their God.
