Mangaluru, July 24, 2025: Major Update in 2008 Ullal Terror Case
In a significant breakthrough, Yasin Bhatkal alias Sharukh alias Dr. Araj, the prime accused in the 2008 Ullal terror case, was produced for the first time before the Hon’ble JMFC Court via video conference from Tihar Jail, Delhi.
Case Background:
On October 4, 2008, Ullal Police, based on intelligence inputs, raided areas in Mukkacheri and Chembugudde, uncovering terrorist activities linked to the banned Indian Mujahideen. Several suspects were arrested, and explosives including IEDs were seized.
The case was registered under Crime No. 242/2008. Of the 13 accused, 7 were arrested. In a 2017 verdict, three were sentenced to life imprisonment while four were acquitted. Yasin Bhatkal, however, remained absconding.
Latest Update:
Currently serving a sentence in Tihar Jail for the Hyderabad blasts, Yasin Bhatkal was successfully produced before the court via video conference on July 24, 2025. The next hearing is scheduled for August 20, 2025.
