Janmashtami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is considered the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It usually falls in the month of August or September, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada.

On this day, devotees observe fasting, sing devotional songs, and reenact episodes from Krishna’s life, such as Rasa Lila and Dahi Handi. Temples and homes are beautifully decorated, and idols of baby Krishna are placed in cradles. At midnight, the time believed to be Krishna’s birth, devotees offer prayers and celebrate with great joy.
