Chhitkul is a village in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. During winters, the place mostly remains covered with the snow and the inhabitants move to lower regions of Himachal.
The last frontier village on the Indo-Tibetan border, Chitkul is often regarded as 'the jewel of the Baspa valley'. The English traveler and explorer Captain Alexander Gerard once proclaimed the Baspa valley the most spectacular of the Himalayan valleys.
Chitkul is often called the "last Indian village" because it's the final inhabited settlement on the Indian side near the Indo-Tibetan border? Beyond this picturesque village, civilian movement is prohibited, offering a unique glimpse into untouched beauty and traditional Himalayan culture!

Brief History -:

The mela tradition, according to historical chronicles, started centuries ago with the belief that couples who pray at the temple for a child would have their wish fulfilled. The couples thus blessed then bring their children dressed as langurs to the temple as a way of saying "thank you".

The Langoor dance, which the followers of the temple conduct to honor the powerful monkey God, is a common sight. Numerous worshippers arrive here each year dressed as Langoors. In Amritsar, the occasion is also referred to as Langoor Mela.
