Poonch, May 02:
In a significant step towards promoting a drug-free society and fostering a culture of health, discipline, and positivity among youth, the Department of Youth Services & Sports Poonch organized a series of sports and fitness activities, including yoga sessions, across various zones of the district under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 6,751 youth, reflecting growing awareness and a strong commitment among young individuals toward a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
As part of the programme, intramural competitions were conducted across multiple zones, with a total participation of 739 students (boys and girls) in games such as kho-kho, kabaddi, chess, volleyball, and badminton. Participants actively engaged in all activities, adding vibrancy and inclusivity to the campaign.
The events were conducted successfully with active involvement from students and staff, showcasing excellent coordination and enthusiasm at every level. The programme was held under the guidance of Anuradha Gupta, whose vision continues to inspire youth-centric initiatives across the Union Territory.
A dedicated yoga session, along with multiple sports activities, was also organized to enhance both physical fitness and mental well-being. These activities not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also instilled values of discipline, unity, and confidence among participants.
An awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was also conducted to educate participants about the harmful effects of drug abuse and performance-enhancing substances, while promoting the spirit of fair play in sports.
Adding a strong social message, all participants collectively took a pledge:
“Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports,” reaffirming their commitment to leading a healthy and responsible life.
Officials emphasized that the primary objective of such initiatives is to steer youth away from the dangers of drug abuse and channel their energy into constructive pursuits such as sports, education, and personal development.
The larger campaign was formally launched on April 11 by Manoj Sinha, marking the beginning of a 100-day intensive drive across Jammu and Kashmir.
At the district level, the programme was conducted under the supervision of Mohammad Qasim, while on-ground coordination and management were efficiently handled by Vijay Kumar, ensuring smooth ex*****on of all activities.
Officials further highlighted that such initiatives form part of a broader mission to bring long-term positive transformation in society by promoting fitness, education, and responsibility among youth.
The programme concluded on a highly motivating note, with participants displaying remarkable enthusiasm, discipline, and sportsmanship. Their active involvement stands as a testament to the increasing awareness among youth about the importance of staying away from drugs.
Such impactful initiatives by the Department of Youth Services & Sports Poonch continue to play a vital role in shaping a healthier, safer, and more responsible society.
