TWO SUNDAY MORNING HOMICIDES in Minneapolis.

MPD Investigating Two Sunday Morning Shootings that Left two Dead and one Injured

September 14, 2025 – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that two shootings on Sunday morning left a man and a woman dead, and one man injured.

The first shooting occurred at approximately 1:49 am when Third Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 1500 block of Lake St E. While enroute, the call was updated to a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. They rendered life saving aid until paramedics arrived. The man was transported by EMS to the hospital where he later died.

Officers were notified that a second man arrived at the hospital by private transport. Officers went to the hospital and found the man had apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Investigators believe he was injured as a result of this shooting.

MPD investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.

The second shooting occurred at approximately 7:53am when Fourth Precinct Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Russell Ave N. Officers arrived and found a woman with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid including performing CPR. Despite this aid, the woman died at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates the shooting may be domestic related. The shooter fled the scene before officers arrived.

“In recent weeks, our city has seen far too much senseless violence in a short period of time,” said Chief O’Hara. “The Minneapolis Police Department will continue to work urgently to hold those responsible accountable, but we cannot do that alone. I urge anyone who knows something about these heinous acts to come forward and help us stop the violence.”

Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process both scenes.

No arrests have been made in either shooting.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the names of the deceased along with the official causes and manners of death.

Case numbers: 1500 block Lake St E: 25-263612, 1400 block Russell Ave N: 25-263786
