Editing this 56-minute documentary took over 5 months… but honestly, it feels like I aged a couple of years along the way.

Filmmaking has a way of taking everything out of you, mentally, physically, emotionally. You push both sides of your brain to their limits, and somewhere in that process, you can feel the wear and tear. But at the same time, you come out of it a little wiser, a little deeper, carrying stories and lessons that stay with you.

That’s why I keep coming back to it. Because filmmaking doesn’t just make you grow, it transforms you. It leaves its marks on you, like something aged with time… something vintage.

Anyway, here’s the poster of our upcoming documentary. Screening begins soon. Can’t wait to share this journey with you all.

Poster of our upcoming documentary film...

After over 6 months of dedication, passion, and relentless hard work, we are proud to announce our upcoming documentary film — LOKSADHANA.

A story where education became hope for a village, this film captures the inspiring journey of two generations committed to transforming lives through learning and community upliftment.

With a runtime of approximately 56 minutes, the film is the result of more than 600 hours of post-production work, including editing, colour grading, and music production, all brought together with care and purpose. This independent production is managed by Film Karigar, and we are deeply grateful to Lokmanya Public Charitable Trust and SVP India for their generous support in making this journey possible.

A heartfelt thanks to the incredible production team behind the film:
Research, directed, and edited by Sourav Dutta
Assistant Director: Lakhan Chaudhari
Cinematography: Madhab Poddar
Camera assisted by Asim Debnath
Digital Intermediate (DI): Madhab Poddar
Sound Recording: Om Pandit
Drone Footage: Anurag Deshmukh
Behind-the-scenes Documentation: Gargi Desai
Music & Vocals: Amarabha Banerjee

This film is not just a project, it is a collective effort, a shared vision, and a tribute to the power of education.

Screening details coming soon. Stay tuned.

In the last decade, digital tools have evolved faster than my cooking skills! Remember when smartphones were just for calls? Now they practically run our lives, anticipating our cravings. Whether it’s pizza, a new show, or that adorable cat video we didn't know we needed.

Imagine asking your virtual assistant to remind you to drink water, and it snickering back, “But you just finished making a 1-liter coffee!” These tools are learning our quirks better than our closest friends, adapting to us like a loyal golden retriever but without the shedding.

AI is now smarter, too! I mean, it can write poetry, compose music, and even critique art! My only fear? One day, I’ll ask it to paint my portrait, and it’ll deliver a Picasso while I still can’t draw a stick figure.

Yet, amidst this whirlwind of tech wizardry, here’s food for thought: Are we becoming more connected or simply more dependent? As we munch on this digital feast, let’s not lose the recipe for genuine human connection. Here’s to our future tech overlords, may they have a great sense of humour!

For more than a century, Indian mainstream cinema has shown women everywhere, singing in mustard fields, sacrificing silently in kitchens, dancing under rain, waiting at windows, or inspiring male transformation. Yet one thing remains startlingly absent: the critical interiority of women.

Indian cinema has consistently shown women, but rarely allowed them to think.

Non-fiction outdoor filming carries a responsibility far beyond storytelling. When we step into forests, hills, riversides, or villages with a camera, we enter living ecosystems, not sets built for our convenience. Every sound we record, every path we walk, and every space we occupy leaves a trace. Respecting the environment means understanding that nature is not just a backdrop to our story; it is an active participant in it.

To film responsibly is to move gently, avoiding damage to flora, disturbing wildlife, or altering natural rhythms for the sake of a shot. It means listening to local communities who have lived in harmony with these landscapes for generations and learning from their ways of coexistence. Ethical non-fiction filmmaking demands patience: waiting for natural light instead of forcing it, observing moments instead of staging them, and accepting what the environment offers rather than imposing our vision upon it.

Understanding the environment also deepens the authenticity of the film. When filmmakers respect the land, the camera begins to capture truth with humility. The result is not just a visually honest film, but one that carries integrity where storytelling and sustainability walk together. In a time of ecological crisis, non-fiction cinema must become an act of care, not consumption.

I witnessed, experienced, and facilitated a deep-dive session at Loknirman, hosted by Loksadhana Chikhalgaon, on December 27, 2025. It felt like a quiet yet powerful way to close the year.

The session left me with a few unspoken resolutions, rooted in self-growth, reflection, and a renewed commitment to using media as a tool for impact, not merely entertainment. It reminded me why storytelling must carry responsibility, sensitivity, and purpose.

I’ll be sharing a more detailed reflection on this experience in the upcoming newsletter for Film Karigar, unpacking what it means to create media that listens, engages, and truly matters.

We would have built a world far more compassionate than the one we inhabit today.

Children do not come into this world to learn from us alone. They come to remind us of who we have forgotten to be. They are tiny mirrors reflecting a truth we once lived with ease.

Every time I film a child, I am not just documenting life, I am witnessing the original form of humanity before the world edits it.
