Read the caption please 🙏
36 Years and Counting: A Pain That Never Fades…..Today, January 19th, marks 36 years since that fateful day in 1990.

The day when hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri Pandit families were forced to leave their homes.

We did not leave by choice.
We left to survive.

I was around 8 years old.
Too young to understand politics.
Old enough to feel the fear.

I remember -
the chaos, the silence & the long journey out of Kashmir.

We left behind our home.
Our memories. Our culture. Our identity.

We became refugees in our own country.
Uprooted from the very soil that defined who we were.

For the Kashmiri Pandit community,
January 19th is not just a date on the calendar - it is a lifelong scar.

It is a brutal reminder of what we lost.

It has been 36 years of -
waiting, hoping, and dreaming of going back home.

But the painful reality is that we are still waiting.

But as much as this day brings pain,
it also reminds me of the resilience of my community.

Despite the loss, the trauma, and the heartbreak, Kashmiri Pandits have endured.

We have rebuilt our lives in different cities.
Carrying our rich culture with us.

We have taught our children about the beauty of Kashmir, even if they have never set foot there.

And yet, the longing to return remains.

As I reflect on this journey -
my heart aches for the 8 year old me who lost his childhood overnight and for the countless others who lost so much more.

But it also swells with pride for my community’s strength and spirit.

To those who read this:
▶️ Please remember January 19th.
▶️ Remember the story of the Kashmiri Pandits.
▶️ Remember that 36 years later, the exile continues.

I didn’t learn these from books.

I learned them from losing people I thought would stay.

From waiting for help that never came.

From fighting for things that still fell apart.

From watching my parents carry more than they should have.

From starting over more times than I want to count.

Some lessons don’t arrive gently. They break the door down.

These are the truths I wish someone had told me earlier. But maybe I wasn’t ready to hear them then.

If even one of these hits you today - it found you at the right time.

Save it for later. Or send it to someone who needs to read this right now.

Some pain doesn’t scream.
It just sits there. Quietly. Every single day.

You smile through it.

You show up.

You answer “I’m fine” because it’s easier than explaining.

And no one knows.

Because you learned early that falling apart wasn’t an option.

So you carried it. Alone. In silence.

This one’s for you.

For the weight no one sees.

For the days you held yourself together when no one was watching.

You are not weak for feeling this.

You are human.

And if no one’s told you lately - I see you.

Save this for a day you need it.

Or send it to someone who has been carrying too much.
