"Services charges at eateries are voluntary"
Explained by
Restaurants can't force customers to pay service charges.

Consumers are being falsely misled on the legality of service charges and harassed by restaurants on requesting to remove such charges from the bill amount, said the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), however, said there is no illegality in levying such a charge.

The Bar Council of India has allowed the use of bare act with short notes/Comments for the All India Bar Examination-XVI [AIBE-XVI] scheduled to be held on October 31, 2021 

"The Council has considered the request made by many candidates appearing in the 16th All India Bar Examination scheduled to be held on 31.10.2021 to allow candidates to use bare Acts with short notes/comments during the examination as candidates are facing difficulty in procuring bare Acts without short notes/comments from the market,".

Drawing from the ideas f Karl Marx, Chief remarked that women of the world must unite because they have nothing to lose but their chains.
He identified that women must 'shout with anger and demand 50% reservation', not as charity but as a matter of right. Recognizing thousands of years of suppression of women, he expressed that it is high time we must realize and reach this goal in the Supreme Courts and other subordinate courts.

He was addressing the felicitation function organized by the Lady Advocates honour of Hon'ble CJI and Hon'ble Judges of Supreme Court on 26 09 2021

He also cited statistics on the representation of women and informed that women constitute less than 30% strength of the lower judiciary, whereas, at the High Court, they are at just 11%. At the Supreme Court, we now have four out of 33 judges, CJI.
He further said that amongst 1.7 million lawyers, only 15% are women, while they constitute only 2% of the elected representatives at the State Bar Councils.

Referring to the proposal of Judicial Infrastructure Corporation as the 'need of the hour,' he further remarked, "This needs urgent correction. People will cite difficulties that women have to face to be fully represented. That is not correct. I agree there is the client's preference, uncomfortable environment, and lack of infrastructure are the major issues unfriendly to women in the legal profession. Among the 60,000 Courts, 22% do not even have toilets due to which even lady officers suffer.

While supporting the demands raised by the lady advocates earlier in the session, he mentioned that he supports the resumption of the physical hearing, noting that the Senior Counsels have reservations regarding this. Moreover, he expressed his reluctance to take any further risks amidst the COVID-19 pandemic; however, he stated that post-Dushehra holidays, it is hopeful that courts can be fully reopened physically.

He also strongly recommended and supported the demand for a certain percentage of reservations for women at law schools.

While assuring his support to the lady advocates for all their causes he wished a very Happy Daughter's Day to all the lady advocates in attendance. Also, referred to the lady advocates as role models of the younger generation.

Jhanjhar court in Bihar, Madhubani last week granted bail to a man (washerman by profession) accused of outraging the modesty of a woman on the condition that he would wash and iron the clothes of all women of the village free of cost for six months.

It was alleged that the bail applicant had outraged the modesty of the informant and had attempted to r**e her while she was sleeping and thereafter a case had been registered against him under Section 354 (B) of IPC 

It was submitted by his counsel that he was ready to do community service to show his respect for the woman.

He has been granted bail on a 10,000/- bail bond and the Court also directed that the copy of the order be sent to the Sarpanch of the village of the informant and if he fails to fulfil the bail condition, the Mukhiya has been asked to approach the court.
