A case of fraud was registered against Anand Mahindra and 12 employees of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur for "false assurances" on the safety of a car.

The complainant, Rajesh Mishra, alleged that the company sold him a Scorpio car with airbags missing, leading to the death of his son in a car accident.

Rajesh Mishra bought the black Scorpio for Rs 17.39 lakh in 2020 as a gift for his son, Apoorv.

On January 14, 2022, while returning from Lucknow to Kanpur with friends, Apoorva's car hit a divider due to foggy conditions and overturned, resulting in his death on the spot.

Following the accident, Rajesh approached the auto store from where he bought the car on January 29, highlighting the alleged defects in the car.

In the FIR, the complainant said that despite the seatbelt being fastened during the accident, the airbag failed to deploy. Rajesh Mishra, in his complaint, said that the company cheated him by giving false assurances.

Rajesh accused the company of fraudulent practices, saying that if the vehicle had been inspected thoroughly, his son would not have died.
