Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Dwarka – A Sacred Shiva Shrine by the Sea
Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple, also known as Badkeshwar Mahadev Mandir, is a divine temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Dwarka, Gujarat. This ancient temple is built on a hillock surrounded by the Arabian Sea, offering a breathtaking view of the coastline. During high tide, the temple gets submerged in water, and during low tide, devotees can easily visit this sacred site.
According to legend, Bhadkeshwar Mahadev was discovered at the confluence of the Gomati River, Ganga, and the Arabian Sea by Acharya Jagatguru Shankaracharya himself. The temple is home to 1,200 Salagramshilas, 1,300 Shiva Lingas, and idols of 75 Shankaracharyas. One of the most unique aspects of this temple is the self-performed abhisheka by the sea, which takes place annually in June or July, when the Arabian Sea rises and offers prayers to the Shivalinga.
