Serious concerns have once again been raised over safety arrangements at live music concerts in Mumbai following the d*ath of a 28-year-old man during an event at the NSCI Dome in Worli, South Mumbai. The incident comes just days after a tragic occurrence at NESCO in Goregaon, reigniting discussions around crowd management, security measures, and the possible use of intoxicating substances at large-scale events.

The dec*ased has been identified as Vrushabh Gangurde, a resident of Mahim, Mumbai. According to available information, he had attended the concert on Saturday night along with a female friend.

Sources said that the young man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, while the woman accompanying him was also reportedly intoxicated. At around 9:00 PM, both of them suddenly fell ill during the event. With the assistance of event organizers and people present at the venue, they were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

Doctors declared Vrushabh dead during treatment, while the woman is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Police and other concerned agencies have launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary inquiries have not found any clear evidence of narcotic drug consumption. However, authorities are examining all possible angles, including the possibility of substance abuse.

Initial reports suggest that the victim may have suffered a cardiac arrest, though no official confirmation has been issued so far. The exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem and forensic examinations.

Investigators are also trying to ascertain the circumstances that led to the sudden deterioration of his health during the concert. According to preliminary information, the event witnessed a large turnout, and both the deceased and his friend reportedly experienced suffocation and breathing difficulties while at the venue.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the concert venue, collecting medical reports and recording statements of witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

In a major relief for lakhs of residents, a high-level meeting was held at Mantralaya on June 3 under the chairmanship of Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule following a demand raised by MLA Kumar Ailani regarding the long-pending issue of encroachment regularization and property ownership rights in Ulhasnagar.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Revenue Department, Konkan Division, Thane district administration and the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation. Detailed discussions were held on the issues raised by MLA Ailani, following which several key decisions were taken. The government agreed to launch a special drive to regularize all eligible encroachments existing before January 1, 2011 and provide ownership documents to beneficiaries.

Key Decisions

* All eligible pre-2011 encroachments, including slums, block plots, U-number, E-number and Chalta-number properties, will be regularized.
* Citizens will not be required to obtain a D-Certificate and can regularize their land by paying 5% of the Ready Reckoner value.
* A special task force will be formed to expedite the regularization process.
* After receiving a Sanad, owners will be eligible for D-Forms and can seek approvals for redevelopment or reconstruction of dilapidated buildings.
* Property Cards will be issued as official proof of ownership.

The decisions are expected to pave the way for ownership rights for lakhs of Ulhasnagar residents and facilitate access to bank loans, redevelopment projects and other government benefits.

A major observation by the Bombay High Court in an Ulhasnagar property tax case has now sparked discussion across Maharashtra.

The Court observed that civics bodies do not have the legal power to seal shops, homes, or other properties solely for unpaid property tax recovery.

The ruling came during the hearing of a petition filed by a 75-year-old Ulhasnagar trader whose shop and godown had been sealed over pending tax dues.

Do you think this judgment will bring relief to thousands of property owners across the state?

Questions are once again being raised over delayed action against the illegal construction at ‘Regency Plaza’ in Shantinagar, Ulhasnagar 3. Despite repeated notices and directives from the Town Planning Department, no demolition, sealing, or restriction on the use of the disputed premises has been carried out so far.

The commercial project, located on Survey Nos. 169 (Part) and 169-B (Part), has remained under controversy over an alleged 2,943.70 sq. metre (around 31,000 sq. ft.) unauthorized construction, including an allegedly illegal hall. Following an inspection, the UMC’s TP department had earlier issued notices to the developer and instructed Ward Committee No. 1 to initiate action and seal the disputed portions.

However, months after those directions, the alleged illegal sections continue to remain operational, with commercial activities reportedly going on openly. Civic sources claim the delay is linked to a revised plan submitted by the developer, which is currently under technical scrutiny by the TP Department. Officials are reportedly examining whether the revised proposal complies with existing norms and regulations.
In a fresh development, the TP Department on May 27 issued another letter to Ward Committee No. 1, directing it to take action “as per prevailing rules” if earlier instructions had not been implemented. The letter, signed by Deputy Assistant Director of Town Planning Vikas Birari and addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Ward Committee No. 1, reiterated that the additional construction had already been identified during inspection and that action had previously been recommended.

The department also noted that despite notices being served, the use of the disputed premises had not been stopped. It further instructed the ward office to submit a compliance report after taking necessary action.

The case has sparked fresh debate in the city, with allegations that the Ward Committee and Town Planning Department are shifting responsibility onto each other while the disputed structure continues operating. Citizens are now waiting to see whether actual action will finally be taken or not!

In a major political setback for the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) in the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Kalani Camp corporator Vicky Darshansingh Labana elected from Ward 6(A), an OBC reserved seat has been disqualified after his caste certificate was declared invalid by the District Caste Certificate Scrutiny Committee, Nashik.

According to the official order issued on May 22, 2026, by Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awhale, Labana has been declared ineligible as a municipal member under Section 10(1-C) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act with effect from May 13, 2026.

The action follows a decision taken by the District Caste Certificate Scrutiny Committee, Nashik, which ruled on May 13 that the “Banjara” caste certificate submitted by Vicky Darshansingh Labana during the municipal election process was invalid. The committee also directed that the certificate issued by the Assistant District Collector, Nashik, be cancelled and surrendered to the government.

Labana had contested and won the January 15, 2026 Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation election from the OBC-reserved Ward 6(A), where submission and validation of caste certificates is mandatory for candidates contesting from reserved categories.

Following the scrutiny committee’s decision, Commissioner Manisha Awhale issued formal disqualification orders as per directives of the State Election Commission regarding cases where caste certificates are found invalid or false.

With the corporator seat now vacant, political circles believe that a re-election is likely to be conducted soon in Ward 6(A), from where Labana was elected. The development has intensified political discussions in Ulhasnagar, with all eyes now on whether allies Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena will once again face each other in the ward or arrive at a mutual understanding under alliance politics.
