In 2011, Grammy-winning musician Zac Brown bought 400 acres of farmland in Fayetteville, Georgia. He used the land to build Camp Southern Ground, a facility created to serve both children and military veterans.

During the summer, the camp welcomes children between the ages of 7 and 17 for inclusive residential camps. It brings together children from different backgrounds, including typically developing children, children with autism and other neurodevelopmental differences, underserved children, and children from military families.

"We're building this place because we believe that we can change the world from here," Brown has said.

For the rest of the year, the same place focuses on helping post-9/11 veterans. It offers two programs called Warrior Week and Warrior PATHH. Warrior Week helps veterans with workforce and wellness transition, while Warrior PATHH supports post-traumatic growth for combat veterans dealing with PTSD.

Both programs are completely free for veterans. They are supported through donations and partner organizations. The programs give veterans support, structure, and guidance as they work toward returning to civilian life and building a new future after their military service.

On September 11, 2001, Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, was 27 years old and booked on American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles.

MacFarlane had been out the night before and was tired when he arrived at the airport. His travel agent had also given him the wrong departure time, telling him that his flight would leave at 8:15 a.m. instead of the actual 7:45 a.m. departure.

Because of the wrong information and his late arrival, MacFarlane reached the gate about 10 minutes too late. He missed the flight and booked the next available one.

After that, he went to the airport lounge and fell asleep. When he woke up, there was a lot of confusion and activity around the airport. He soon learned that the plane he had missed had been hijacked.

Flight 11 later crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Everyone on board was killed.

MacFarlane has spoken about the experience and said he does not see it as fate. Instead, he considers it a very fortunate coincidence that he arrived too late for the flight.

He was not the only celebrity who had a close call that day. Actor Mark Wahlberg was also booked on Flight 11. However, he changed his plans at the last minute and decided to travel by chartered jet to a film festival in Toronto instead.

Both MacFarlane and Wahlberg were supposed to be on Flight 11 but ended up missing the tragic flight.

Lady Gaga has become a mother for the first time. On September 11, 2026, multiple outlets, including Page Six, reported that Gaga and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, have welcomed their first child. However, the couple has not shared many details about the baby. The baby’s name, gender, and exact birth date have not been revealed.

Page Six also shared photos of Gaga holding an infant close to her chest while walking in Northern California. Gaga, 40, and Polansky, 42, have kept their personal lives mostly private. In the months before the news, they had also been seen less often in public. This led to some public speculation about what was happening in their lives.

Gaga and Polansky have been together since 2020. They became engaged in July 2024. Gaga has spoken openly in the past about wanting to become a mother.

In March 2025, she told The New York Times that she was excited to become a mom. She also said that she had once felt a lot of fear and worry about becoming a mother.

Now, Gaga and Polansky have welcomed their first child, marking a new chapter in their lives.

In Norton, Kansas, inmates at Norton Correctional Facility learned that Norton Community Schools (USD 211) had about $6,000 in unpaid school meal debt by the end of the 2025–2026 school year. The debt came from families who were struggling with food insecurity.

Members of “Reaching Out From Within,” a prison program that focuses on personal change and nonviolence, decided to help. They organized a fundraiser and donated $3,810 of their own money.

Staff members from the Kansas Department of Corrections also wanted to help and added another $457. Together, their donations reached $4,267.

On August 3, nearly 30 incarcerated men attended a ceremony where they presented the donation to school superintendent Corey Roy. The money was meant to help reduce the meal debt and support families in the community who were struggling to pay for school meals.

Roy said he was grateful for the opportunity to speak with the men as a group and individually. He also wanted them to understand the positive impact of their actions.

"I was very appreciative to have the chance to talk to them as a group, but also individually to hear how this made them feel to help someone else," Roy said. "I wanted them to know that they made a difference in a positive way."

Mia Khan, an illiterate daily wage worker from Sharan city in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, has made a remarkable effort to help his three daughters get an education.

Every day, he travels about 12 kilometers to take his daughters to Nooranya School, the only girls’ school in the area. This means he travels around 24 kilometers in total each day. Sometimes he makes the journey on foot, and other times he travels by motorcycle.

After taking his daughters to school, Mia waits outside for four to five hours until their classes finish. He then takes them home.

Despite being poor and having never received an education himself, Mia believes strongly in giving his daughters a better future. He said, “I hope that one day my daughters will be able to support me the way that I have supported them. I am a very poor man. I hope in the future they become well-educated, that they become doctors.”

His daughter Rozai also explained how difficult studying can be for the family. She said, “My mother and father did not go to school so there is no one to help us with our homework.”

Mia’s story later went viral, bringing attention to his daily sacrifice and his daughters’ education.

After the story gained widespread attention, Afghanistan’s education ministry invited Mia to Kabul. He was honored with a medal, and officials pledged to build a girls’ school in his village.

However, the specific claim that the new school would be named after Mia could not be confirmed.

For Mia, the journey is about giving his daughters opportunities he never had himself.

Jay Leno, 75, spoke openly with Hoda Kotb during a TODAY interview that aired on November 20, 2025. He talked about caring for his wife of 45 years, Mavis, 79, who has advanced dementia. Leno was given conservatorship over her estate in April 2024 after her diagnosis.

Leno said one of the hardest parts was watching Mavis repeatedly experience the pain of learning that her mother had died. He explained that this happened again and again for about three years.

"Her mother d!ed every day for, like, three years," Leno said. "And it was not just crying... you're learning for the first time."

As Mavis's condition has progressed, the couple can no longer travel or go out to restaurants as they once did. Instead, they spend time together at home watching YouTube videos about travel and animals. They also take drives in their car, something Mavis enjoys.

Leno said he tries to comfort and reassure her when conversations become confusing or she loses track of what they were discussing. He continues to spend time with her and make their daily life as comfortable as possible.

Even with the challenges they face, Leno said Mavis still recognizes him. He described her as happy and content.

"She seems happy, and she seems contented," Leno said. "I enjoy taking care of her."

His comments showed the difficult reality of caring for someone with advanced dementia, while also showing the love and commitment he continues to have for his wife after 45 years of marriage.

On September 11, 2001, 35-year-old American Airlines flight attendant Amy Sweeney took an extra shift for a colleague who was sick. This placed her on Flight 11, which was flying from Boston to Los Angeles.

Soon after takeoff, attackers took control of the plane. Sweeney called American Airlines manager Michael Woodward and calmly shared important information about what was happening.

She told him that the plane had been taken over. She also reported that two flight attendants had been stabbed, one passenger was seriously injured, and there was a explosion threat in the cockpit.

Sweeney also gave Woodward the seat numbers of the attackers. This information later helped investigators identify three of them as Mohamed Atta, Abdulaziz al-Omari, and Satam al-Suqami.

Sweeney stayed on the phone as Flight 11 continued toward New York City. Even during the terrifying situation, she continued giving information that could help people understand what was happening on the plane.

As the aircraft came closer to New York, Sweeney described what she could see from the plane. Her final words were: "I see water. I see buildings. We're flying low. We're flying very, very low."

At 8:46 a.m., Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Sweeney was one of the people who died that morning. She was also a mother of two children. Her calm actions during those final moments helped provide investigators with important information about the attack and the people responsible.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick was not in his office. Instead, he had taken his young son, Kyle, to his first day of kindergarten. That decision changed everything. Lutnick later said that he was with his son when the first plane hit the North Tower at 8:46 a.m.

Cantor Fitzgerald had offices on floors 101 to 105 of the North Tower. The company suffered one of the largest losses of any business that day. A total of 658 employees were killed, including Lutnick's younger brother, Gary, and his close friend Doug, who was 39 years old.

Just four days after the attacks, Lutnick made a difficult decision that caused strong public anger. Before the full number of deaths was even known, the company stopped regular paychecks to the families of employees who had passed away. The decision received heavy criticism at the time.

Later, Lutnick announced that Cantor Fitzgerald would give 25% of its profits over five years to the victims' families. The company eventually provided more than $180 million.

Lutnick also made another promise. He said that every child of an employee who passed away would be offered a job at the company when they were old enough. By 2016, 57 children had joined Cantor Fitzgerald.
