छपरहिया पूर्वी - Breaking Rules of pre male dominance.
Last year in Paddy Field Festival I presented a bhojpuri folk based on this element - ‘devra tudi killi’. In this song the wife is requesting her husband to come back home soon. She is feeling very much insecure since every night she gets frightened to hear knock at the door of her bedroom by none other than her devar (brother of the husband). Obviously it is about sexual harassment. In our civilized society women and girls are not even safe in their own house. Really shameful.

It is really laudable that Folk Music is giving a space to express and elaborate the pain and agony of suppressed gender of the society. So in totality, folk music is incomplete without the presence of women’s view. Folk art and music can play a vital role in reshaping women's status by respecting the importance of values, thus readjusting male dominance in the society.
