Gopura, traditionally signifying the majestic gateway to a temple, carries a personal resonance in this residence. The name, chosen in memory of the family’s cherished dog, Gopi, infuses the home with affection and meaning. Located on a compact 2400 sq. ft. plot in a dense South Bangalore neighborhood, the residence is a sensitive renovation that bridges heritage with contemporary living.
The design honors the original house, preserving its load-bearing structure while introducing thoughtful interventions that enhance light, openness, and ventilation. Carefully placed openings and courtyards create a natural flow of air and daylight, transforming the once inward-facing home into a space that feels bright, connected, and serene.

Traditional Indian architectural elements like jaali screens, exposed materials, and intimate courtyards have been reinterpreted to serve both aesthetic and climatic functions. These features encourage cross-ventilation, optimize daylight, and create moments of pause and reflection. Rather than a radical overhaul, the renovation is a gentle transformation, allowing the essence of the original home to remain intact. The result is a warm, introspective space where memories are preserved, cultural roots are celebrated, and a new chapter of family life unfolds with grace.

Zikr is a residence that embodies a philosophy of design rooted in nature and heritage. At its heart lies the central courtyard, which serves as the home's lung, drawing in natural light and fostering cross-ventilation crucial for the local climate. The home's character is built upon a foundation of reclaimed materials, with old roof tiles giving the facade a sense of belonging and ancestral furniture, including pieces with pure cane weaving, infusing the interiors with a rich sense of history. The design's thoughtful planning is evident in every space, from the seamless indoor-outdoor transitions to the jaali wall in the prayer room that offers a delicate balance of privacy and connection.

Zikr is a powerful statement about the harmony between traditional wisdom and modern living, a home that feels both timeless and deeply personal.

The living and dining areas, which share a large open volume, are subtly separated by an archway that acts as a physical and visual partition. This archway is made of Channapatna toys, thoughtfully arranged to form column-like partitions, serving as a nostalgic tribute to traditional craftsmanship and childhood memories. This space perfectly encapsulates the home’s ethos of blending heritage with contemporary design.

The living space flows into the heart of the home, framed by a soaring double-height volume that blurs the line between indoors and out. One courtyard spills into this zone with a pool and deck, inviting movement, light, and social gatherings into the everyday. The other, more intimate, holds a swing and bar, creating a cocooned retreat where stillness balances the home’s openness

Set in the serene outskirts of Coimbatore, Veiled Volumes is envisioned as a sculptural home where architecture and landscape merge into one entity. Cantilevered planes, interlocking geometries, and cascading layers of greenery define its character, with the landscape acting as a natural veil that softens the bold structural volumes. This interplay creates a residence that feels at once grounded and organically connected to its surroundings.

This film is presented by in association with Kajaria

The home is planned around three zones, public, semi-private, and private, organized to balance openness and privacy. A dramatic double-height core combining dining and informal living becomes the heart of the house, filled with light and cross-ventilation. Two courtyards anchor the design: an eastern courtyard with a swimming pool, outdoor deck, and alfresco dining, and a western courtyard with a bar and swing. These outdoor extensions encourage family gatherings while blurring the line between inside and outside. Bedrooms open to landscaped views, while the upper floors house more private areas, including a secluded entertainment zone that expands into a terrace garden.

A palette of concrete, satin-finish tiles, and metal screens is softened by vegetation and light, creating textured contrasts. The result is a home sculpted in silence, yet deeply alive with nature.

Amidst a dense urban setting, the Shah Residence is thoughtfully planned around a mature existing tree, which shaped the layout and visual orientation of the house. Acting as a natural buffer from the street, the tree informs key design decisions, connecting the indoors with nature through framed views and filtered light.

This film is presented by in association with Kajaria (‪.ceramics)

A striking brick jaali façade composed of staggered terracotta bricks defines the home’s crafted identity, bringing rhythm, texture, and ventilation. The same brick continues indoors, adding warmth and tactility to the double-height entry foyer. The plan unfolds linearly from a central foyer to living and dining areas, elevated for better light and airflow.

Bedrooms are placed for privacy while open volumes and soft natural materials keep the spaces serene. The terrace, crowned with a pergola, becomes a contemplative retreat, completing this spatially balanced home.

Tucked away in the quiet outskirts of Coimbatore, Veiled Volumes is envisioned as a home where architecture and landscape weave seamlessly into one. With its cantilevered planes, layered greenery, and geometric volumes, the residence appears sculpted in silence, offering both boldness and calm in its expression.

This film is presented by in association with Kajaria (‪.ceramics)

The house is organized into three distinct zones, public, semi-private, and private, anchored by a striking double-height core that merges dining and informal living. Two courtyards define the spatial experience: the eastern one with a pool and deck that draws life outdoors, and the western one with a swing and bar that creates a quieter retreat. Natural light, cross-ventilation, and visual connections to green pockets ensure that every corner remains connected to nature.

Through its interplay of concrete, metal, and vegetation, the home achieves a balance of solidity and openness, offering a lifestyle grounded in both privacy and landscape.
