One of the most influential voices in Kannada cinema, Puttanna Kanagal brought complex social realities and deeply human stories to the screen. Through films such as Gejje Pooje, Sharapanjara, Nagara Haavu, and Ranganayaki, he explored themes of identity, freedom, social stigma, and changing societal norms with remarkable sensitivity.

On his death anniversary, we look back on a remarkable body of work and celebrate a legacy built not only on memorable films, but on ideas that continue to find relevance across time.
