Gujarat Powers Ahead: Setting a National Benchmark with 6,632 MW of Green Energy in Just 5 Months

Gujarat is rewriting India’s renewable energy story with a phenomenal addition of 6,632 MW of clean power between April and August 2025—bringing its total installed renewable capacity to 39,275 MW. Announced by Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai, this surge cements Gujarat as India’s clean energy leader, contributing nearly 28% of the nation’s renewable capacity.

At the heart of this green revolution are solar and wind projects flourishing in Kutch, Bhavnagar, and Jamnagar, powered by giants like Adani Green Energy Ltd., Renew Power, and Suzlon Energy Limited, Pune. For local farmers such as Ramesh Rabari, the impact transcends numbers: leasing barren land for solar farms has transformed livelihoods with annual earnings of ₹50,000–₹80,000—a true testament to renewables reshaping futures.

Behind the scenes, automation and AI-driven technologies are playing a pivotal role, with smart grid balancing, predictive maintenance, and energy storage systems managing Gujarat’s sprawling renewable assets efficiently. This green progress is fueling industrial growth, driving down energy costs, and fueling India’s Make-in-India ambitions with sustainable power.

Looking ahead, Gujarat is poised to become the blueprint for AI-enabled smart grids and 100% renewable industrial parks, propelling India well ahead of its 2030 climate targets.

India’s Geothermal Gamble: Pioneering a New Frontier in Clean Energy

In a groundbreaking stride toward energy sustainability, Union Power & Renewable Energy Minister R. K. Singh has unveiled India’s first-ever national policy on geothermal energy—a visionary roadmap positioning India as a future player in reliable, baseload renewable power. Developed in partnership with ONGC Foundation Energy Centre, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, and experts from Iceland and Japan, this policy aims to harness the Earth’s subterranean heat to generate 1,000 MW by 2035.

Pilot projects are set in challenging terrains like Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, with ONGC preparing to drill India’s first industrial-scale geothermal wells in Ladakh next year. This initiative promises more than clean power—it offers sustainable livelihoods, replacing diesel generators in remote Himalayan villages with reliable geothermal heating and power.

The ripple effects on industry are profound: automation companies stand to revolutionize drilling robotics, underground sensing, AI-driven load balancing, and automated monitoring of geothermal systems. Unlike solar or wind, geothermal’s 24/7 availability makes it a crucial linchpin in India’s net-zero future.

Over the next decade, geothermal energy could become India’s hidden clean energy weapon—fueling job creation, fostering new industrial supply chains, and propelling India to global leadership in sustainable innovation.

Tier-2 Cities Rise as India’s Next Engineering Powerhouses: Bridging the Talent Gap in the ‘Techade’

India’s engineering talent pool is rapidly expanding in both scale and depth, fueling the nation’s ascent as a global innovation hub. With 1.5 million engineering graduates entering the workforce each year—spanning mechanical, civil, IT, software, and manufacturing—India’s technology sector is on track to reach $350 billion by FY25. Yet, the real story is unfolding beyond metros: Tier-2 cities like Jaipur, Vadodara, Coimbatore, Kochi, Pune, and Indore are rapidly emerging as talent hotbeds, projected to supply 35% of India’s advanced engineers by 2028 as new institutes and tech parks bloom in these regions.

While 60-72% of graduates are deemed employable, only 45% currently meet industry standards, highlighting a critical skills gap, particularly in new-age domains—AI, data science, EVs, and semiconductors. Structured upskilling, reskilling, and robust industry-academia collaboration are imperative for India to sustain its competitive edge, says Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services.

STEM-led innovation is at the heart of India’s next growth phase. By 2026, the country will need 1 million AI-trained engineers; presently, supply meets only 20% of demand. The EV sector, growing at 30-40% CAGR, will require 1-2 million engineers by 2030 in battery tech, electronics, and sustainable design. Meanwhile, the semiconductor industry, buoyed by indigenous achievements like the VIKRAM3201 microprocessor, is set to create 25,000–30,000 skilled jobs annually in chip design, manufacturing, and packaging.

The rise of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and the expansion of local skilling ecosystems are accelerating this transformation, positioning tier-2 cities as cost-effective, high-impact talent hubs for enterprises seeking both depth and scalability. With 70% of future jobs demanding STEM skills, engineers proficient in AI/ML, data engineering, and embedded systems will drive India’s digital and industrial future.

Driving the Future of Sustainable Tyres: Continental and LANXESS Forge a Pioneering Partnership

In a significant step toward a greener automotive future, Continental has become the first tyre manufacturer to adopt LANXESS’s new sustainable rubber additive, Vulkanox HS Scopeblue. This collaboration marks a milestone in the industry's journey to reduce its environmental footprint without compromising on performance.

Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, the ISCC PLUS-certified version of a trusted additive, boasts a CO2 footprint over 30% lower than its conventional counterpart. This remarkable reduction is achieved by using bio-circular raw materials and renewable energy in its production.

For Continental, this innovation is a crucial part of its ambitious strategy. As Steffen Ryssel, Head of Purchasing at Continental Tires, states, this collaboration helps the company move closer to its goal of using over 40% renewable and recycled materials in its tyres by 2030.

What makes this transition seamless is that the additive's chemical structure remains unchanged, meaning tyre manufacturers don't need to overhaul their production processes. Dr. Jens-Hendrik Fischer, Head of LANXESS’ Rhein Chemie business unit, highlights how solutions like these empower customers to achieve their climate goals while developing best-in-class products.

This partnership is more than just an ingredient swap; it’s a powerful example of how industry leaders can work together to champion sustainability, drive innovation, and create a more circular economy—one tyre at a time.
