The house of Mohammed Ghaus Sab Bagewadi's in the sleepy village of Konnur in Belagavi district has transformed into a centre of national pride, drawing visitors and well-wishers, after his daughter-in-law Colonel Sofia Qureshi appeared on television to brief about 'Operation Sindoor' carried out by the Indian armed forces to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.

Colonel Qureshi, who is married to Ghaus Sab Bagewadi's son Tajuddin Bagewadi, holds the distinction of being the first Indian woman officer to lead the military contingent at the ASEAN Plus Multinational Military Exercise 'Force 18'.

Currently, Col Qureshi is posted in Jammu while her husband serves in Jhansi.

Addressing reporters, Ghaus Sab Bagewadi expressed immense pride and said, "I got to know yesterday afternoon. When I saw her (Sofia Qureshi) on the television my joy knew no bounds. People have been visiting our house from the morning to greet us."

He mentioned speaking to his son on Thursday but could not get a chance to speak to his daughter-in-law.

According to Bagewadi, a festive atmosphere prevailed in his house on Wednesday when Col Qureshi appeared on the television screens.

"There is Eid like celebration as all our relatives and friends have been visiting our house calling on us," he said.

A huge crowd of people from various sections of the society gathered outside his residence and raised slogans such as 'Hindustan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind'.

Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack, Bagewadi said, "The terrorists who shot dead innocent people after asking about their faith lack humanity. They are satans. Even Allah will not pardon them. They will pay for their deeds here only."

About the neighbouring country, he said, "Pakistan is a demon. It never attacks from the front. It always targets from behind."

Bagewadi emphasised the peaceful coexistence in his locality, which is home to various communities including Marathas.

"All my neighbours were proud to see that my children are serving in the Army. They were extremely happy. They invited me and honoured me. We are living here like a family," he said.

He expressed hope that his children would continue to fight for the nation and never turn away from their duty.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by su***de sent shockwaves across the industry and India, and put Sushant’s then-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family in the eye of the storm. Rhea and her brother Showik were accused of being involved in Sushant’s death, and were later arrested. They lived with the hate and accusations for five years and finally found closure when the CBI filed its final report giving a clean chit to Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik. Soon after this, SCREEN spoke to Rhea’s close friend Nidhi Hiranandani, who revisited the ordeal the family went through.

Nidhi revealed how the family was ostracized and their lives were ripped apart. She shared that both Rhea and Showik lost precious years of their careers due to these allegations. Talking about Rhea and Sushant Singh Rajput’s relationship, Nidhi said, ā€œAs a couple, they were full of love, it was a beautiful relationship. Both of them were always there for each other.ā€ She even revisited the moment when Rhea was first summoned in the case and said, ā€œI was constantly in touch with Rhea when all this was happening. I don’t think she or her family got even a minute to digest the loss of a loved one. They were shocked, were grieving, and they were just thrown into this survival mode. They couldn’t even sit and mourn properly.ā€

Palak Muchhal, who has lent her voice to hits like Kaun Tujhe, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Jumme Ki Raat, recently joined us for a quick chat before a performance in Ahmedabad. ā€œAny concert that I do, the proceeds go to charity and will be used for surgeries of kids suffering from heart diseases - something that I have been doing since I was a kid,ā€ she told us, adding, ā€œI have performed in Ahmedabad a couple of times before as well and I love that the people are so genuine in showing their love here. I keep getting messages from Gujarat and it feels very good to be here and meet the fans personally.ā€

ā€˜Blessed to have received a lot of good songs’
With quite a few memorable tracks in her repertoire, Palak feels, ā€œI feel that I have been insanely blessed to have received so many milestone songs in my career initially. After Aashiqui 2, I got Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and then Kaun Tujhe. I keep getting female-centric songs. When I wanted to become a playback singer, I had thought that maybe I'll get to sing one song like this someday. But to be able to sing so many in such a short span is a blessing.ā€

Elaborating on her creative process as a multilingual singer, she adds, ā€œWhen I started performing, whenever I would travel to a particular state, I would sing in the local language, one song at least. Not just in India, but even when I went to Singapore, I sang in Malay, and in Arabic while in Dubai. So, there was this passion for languages already inside me. It's challenging initially, but once you get a hang of a particular language, it just becomes part of your system.ā€

ā€˜Music is no longer bound by films’
Sharing her thoughts on the current music scene, Palak says, ā€œThere are many avenues for musicians today. It’s a really fortunate time because singing is not just limited to films anymore. Your social media following can be your ultimate audience. Every year, I make a music wish list for myself. When I came to Mumbai to become a playback singer, I had a list of music directors I wanted to work with. And I've sung with all of them now. Once you set a standard for yourself, I feel levelling up should be the ultimate goal. That is my idea of sustaining in the industry.ā€
ā€˜We have a no work at home policy but I do take Mithoon’s advice’

Palak and musician-husband Mithoon have been married for nearly two years now. On their bond, Palak says, ā€œMithoon and I have a no work policy once we enter the house. We’re both so busy, we keep travelling. So when we get home, there’s this space where we don’t let work be a discussion. However, I do go to him whenever I need his advice. He is my senior in the industry with a lot of experience and I do take advice from him whenever I am stuck.ā€

Sunny Deol's 'Jaat' also starring Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh is doing very well at the box office. It obviously cannot be expected to do a business like Sunny's previous big film 'Gadar 2', however, the numbers and the growth which the film has seen is quite good.

'Jaat' makes Rs 5.15 crore on second Sunday

The film which opened at around Rs 9.5 crore, made around Rs 61.75 crore within 1 week, which was till Thursday. Now on day 9, which was Good Friday, the movie made around Rs 4 crore. This happened despite the fact that on the same day, it was surrounded amidst controversies where it faced backlash for hurting religious sentiments. The makers removed the church scene from the film which hurt the religious sentiments of the Christian community. On Friday, Askshay Kumar's 'Kesari 2' also released which gave a tough competition to 'Jaat' as it opened at Rs 7.5 crore and it saw a good growth through word of mouth.

Thus, over the weekend, 'Jaat' did not make more than 'Kesari 2'. However, it made a decent number with some growth over the weekend. According to Sacnilk, the movie made around Rs 3.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 5.15 crore on Sunday. The total collection of the film now stands at 74.55 crore. The film shall again have to pass the Monday test to see if it sustains well in the coming days. On day 12, which is Monday, up till the morning shows, the film had done Rs 19 lakhs. Of course, one can see a bit of downfall from the Sunday numbers but the Monday test will be crucial for both, 'Jaat' and the new release 'Kesari 2'

Will it cross Rs 100 crore?

The upcoming weekend and the trend seen for 'Kesari 2' will also be a deciding factor if 'Jaat' will cross Rs 100 crore eventually. But going by the current trend, it may cross that number by the end of its third weekend.

Day wise collection of Jaat:Day 1 [1st Thursday] ₹ 9.5 CrDay 2 [1st Friday] ₹ 7 CrDay 3 [1st Saturday] ₹ 9.75 CrDay 4 [1st Sunday] ₹ 14 CrDay 5 [1st Monday) ₹ 7.50 CrDay 6 [1st Tuesday] ₹ 6.00 CrDay 7 [1st Wednesday] ₹ 3.81 CrDay 8 [2nd Thursday] ₹ 4.15 CrWeek 1 Collection ₹ 61.65 Cr -Day 9 [2nd Friday] ₹ 4.25 CrDay 10 [2nd Saturday] ₹ 3.75 Cr Day 11 [2nd Sunday] ₹ 5.15 CrTotal ₹ 74.55 Cr

Salman Khan's Sikandar continues to face a decline in box office earnings. On day 19, the film earned Rs 15 lakh, according to a report by Sacnilk. The action drama recorded a 6.11% Hindi occupancy on April 17. With this, Sikandar's total domestic earnings have reached Rs 109.9 crore.

Sikandar is directed by AR Murugadoss. The movie marks the filmmaker's first collaboration with Salman Khan.

At the trailer launch event, AR Murugadoss shared an anecdote about an unexpected meeting with Salman Khan in Chennai.

The director said, "I was struggling as an AD (Assistant Director) long back. So I wanted to watch a shoot, so I went to Prasad Studios in Chennai. I requested the security guard to let me in and watch me shoot. He allowed me on two conditions. You have to be in corner and you cannot talk to anyone. He gave me 20 minutes. After that, I had to leave."

He added, "I entered. I don't know what the shoot was. Full dark smoke, light comes, Sridevi is there. I was surprised. Then suddenly, I see a hero's backside. He is combing his hair. So, I tried to see who the hero was. He was none other than Salman Sir."

"I tried to go one step forward, and I saw the guard looking at me. He said no. So, I went outside and thought that one day I will direct his film. So, after so many years, I have directed the film with him," the filmmaker concluded.

Sikandar features Salman Khan as Sanjay Rajkot and Rashmika Mandanna as his wife, Saisri Rajkot. The film's supporting cast includes Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi and Prateik Babbar.

All eyes are on Thug Life, one of the biggest film projects in the country this year. The project marks the collaboration of two living legends of Tamil cinema – actor Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam, who last came together for the classic Nayakan (1987).

Launching the film’s first single ā€˜Jinguchaa’, which has music by Oscar-winning AR Rahman, Kamal Haasan said in a press meet held at Chennai’s Kalaivanar Arangam, ā€œThug Life is the kind of cinema I’d like to see... I’m glad that I got to act and produce it too. It has been done with a lot of love for a discerning audience.ā€

Ravi K Chandran, Abhirami, Mani Ratnam, AR Rahman, Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan and Joju George from the launch of the first single from ā€˜Thug Life’ in Chennai, April 18, 2025. | Photo Credit: Thamodharan B
Kamal recalled a time when he and Mani Ratnam would sit on a parked scooter in Eldams Road in Chennai’s Alwarpet, discussing their dreams of making movies. ā€œNothing has changed since then. We dreamt big, but we were constricted by the market and budget. The reason we didn’t get together all these years since Nayakan... the mistake is ours. The reason we’re now back together is you (the audience),ā€ he adds.

Thug Life, said to be an action gangster drama, also stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami and a host of others. Mani Ratnam said, ā€œAfter many years, I got a chance to work with Kamal again. It’s not that he’s a brilliant actor; it’s the fact that he loves cinema. I admire how he balances mainstream cinema with experimental cinema. When he’s acting, half the burden of the director is reduced.ā€

Kamal Haasan on ā€˜Indian 2’, ā€˜Manjummel Boys’ and ā€˜Thug Life’: ā€˜I’m a limelight moth’

With this project, the ace director teams up yet again with his constant collaborator, AR Rahman, with whom he first teamed up for Roja in 1992. Rahman said, ā€œOf course, this is a reunion between Mani Ratnam and Kamal after the iconic Nayakan, but it is very different from Nayakan, and so I didn’t feel that pressure. The film is quite forward-thinking, has today’s sound quality and yet has the magic of Nayakan.

For stars like Silambarasan and Ashok Selvan, this was a ā€˜dream come true’. ā€œIt feels surreal,ā€ he said, ā€œDuring the shoot, I would usually be stuck between Mani and Kamal, and not know what to do. I have watched the work of all these people growing up and feel blessed to be part of such a project.ā€ Trisha, who has already done a few films with Mani Ratnam, the last of them being Ponniyin Selvan, heaped praises on the team, as did actor Joju George, who is currently in demand as an actor thanks to his powerful performances in Malayalam cinema.

Kamal Haasan visits Perplexity AI, meets CEO Aravind Srinivas in San Francisco: ā€˜Our thirst for what’s next remains’

Even as audiences look forward to the film’s theatrical release on June 5, they have the high-energy track, ā€˜Jinguchaa’, to groove to. The wedding celebratory song, with lyrics written by Kamal himself, even features a quick dance step from Kamal and Simbu. ā€œI was not even supposed to dance in this song,ā€ revealed Kamal, ā€œBut then, Mani convinced me. It was difficult because I had to match Simbu’s energy.ā€

Sung by Vaishali Samant, Shakthisree Gopalan and Adhitya R K, the song also features actor Sana Khan dancing to the beats.

Thug Life also boasts a powerful technical crew including the likes of cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, editor Sreekar Prasad and stunt directors Anbariv. The film is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies.
