Victoria Stone - In Memoriam - 1958-2024

It is with a heavy heart that Wildscreen learn of the death of longtime friend, supporter and contributor Vicky Stone on Sunday 17 November 2024.

As one half of Deeble & Stone with her partner Mark, Vicky’s films have played a huge part in shaping our industry over the years, with A Little Fish in Deep Water taking home our Golden Panda Award in 1996.

Vicky’s film, The Elephant Queen, was part of our Official Selection for 2020 and was nominated for two Critics Choice Movie Awards, a Primetime Emmy, and won a Cinema for Peace award, leading to a considerable impact and outreach campaign in Kenya.

Having worked in Africa for over 30 years, Vicky's stories have been shown in more than 140 countries with audiences in excess of 600 million. The Queen of Trees was called 'a masterpiece' by Sir David Attenborough, winning a Peabody and United Nations Award. Deeble & Stone films have won over 100 international awards in recognition of their artistry and wildlife storytelling.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Vicky’s colleagues, friends, family and of course Mark at this time.

A couple hundred years of growth gone in about 20minutes. One of the worst things I’ve ever seen and had to film on a shoot. This type of tree will probably only be used for plywood and wood chippings for your flower beds. We covered the tree fall with three drones and multiple cameras left on record throughout the forest. Something I’m not sure I want to film ever again.
