Mumbai could face a major water tanker crisis from June 7.
Water tanker operators have suspended services and taken their vehicles off the roads, protesting action linked to groundwater extraction and CGWA regulations. Operators say the rules are being enforced harshly, without proper consultation, putting their livelihood and Mumbai’s water supply chain at risk. This strike could directly impact housing societies, commercial buildings, construction sites, industries and many areas that depend on tanker water every day.
Their key demands are simple: stop coercive action immediately, form a joint committee with government officials, and allow tanker services to continue while a practical solution is found.
Now the big question is — will Mumbai get relief in time, or will this strike turn into a serious water crisis for the city?

The Maharashtra government has officially extended the tenure of the Justice Sandeep Shinde Committee until June 30, 2027.But why is this important?
The committee was formed to verify historical Kunbi records and help eligible members of the Maratha community obtain Kunbi caste certificates, a key step in securing reservation benefits.
Along with the extension, the government has announced dedicated reservation assistance cells and a special helpline to help applicants facing certificate-related problems.
Supporters say this move will speed up the reservation process, while critics argue that long-term solutions are still needed.
With lakhs of Maratha families closely watching the developments, the reservation debate remains one of Maharashtra’s biggest political and social issues.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Mumbai has 45 days of water left. Why IMD’s below-average monsoon forecast has BMC on edge

A 10 percent water cut is already in force, lake levels are low, and the BMC is tightening tanker monitoring. The next two months will be crucial.

From “intense monitoring” of filling points for water tankers to appeals for judicious use by public – the BMC has gone back to its drawing boards amid concerns of adequate water supply in Mumbai after the IMD latest forecast revision indicating that the country is likely to receive 90 per cent of its long period average rainfall.

The weather bureau’s downward revision has caused worry within the civic administration, with senior BMC officials on Monday convening a closed door meeting to strategise a plan for supply of adequate potable water until the summer of 2027 in Mumbai, which is entirely dependent on rain water for its daily water demands.
During the meeting, the BMC administration instructed officials to closely monitor the rainfall over the lake catchment area over the next two months. “While it is too early to take any steps

Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across India on June 2, bringing temporary relief to consumers. However, the bigger story lies beneath the surface. In the last 20 days alone, fuel prices were increased four times, with petrol rising by ₹2.6 per litre and diesel by ₹2.7 per litre. Despite these hikes, analysts say oil marketing companies are still losing around ₹5.5 per litre on petrol and ₹4.5 per litre on diesel.Meanwhile, global oil markets remain on edge. Investors are closely watching the uncertain U.S.-Iran ceasefire talks and the future of the crucial Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil routes. If global crude prices rise further, another fuel price revision in India cannot be ruled out.
For now, prices are stable—but the pressure is still building.

Commercial LPG cylinders have become costlier from today, June 1, 2026, with prices rising by ₹42 to ₹53.50 per cylinder across major cities. The hike will directly impact hotels, restaurants, eateries, and small food businesses that depend heavily on 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders. In Mumbai, commercial LPG now costs over ₹3,000 per cylinder, adding more pressure on business owners already dealing with high operating costs. However, there is no change in domestic LPG prices, bringing some relief to households. Experts say if commercial fuel costs keep rising, customers may eventually feel the impact through higher food and service prices.

Mumbai Weather Update: Thunderstorms To Sweep Maharashtra, But Monsoon Still Days Away.

A spell of rain and thunderstorms is forecast across the state in the coming days. However, officials caution that these showers do not signal monsoon onset

Even as weather conditions across Maharashtra begin to change from June 1, bringing the likelihood of thunderstorms and scattered rainfall to several regions, officials have said the southwest monsoon is unlikely to reach the state before June 10.

According to the latest assessment by the Agriculture and Disaster Management departments, the expected rainfall over the coming days should not be interpreted as the onset of the monsoon.

Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange will resume his indefinite hunger strike from May 30 at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district.Jarange has accused the Maharashtra government of failing to fulfil promises made to the Maratha community. He claimed the government is deliberately delaying the distribution of OBC certificates to eligible Maratha members. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the government is doing everything possible for the Maratha community and hoped the protest situation can still be avoided.
Now, all eyes are on May 30.

Will Mumbai drown again? Advocate alleges multi-crore desilting fraud in BMC ahead of rains - Source Midday

Multi-crore scam allegations rock BMC, with whistleblower claiming sneaky removal of debris from private construction sites is being portrayed as pre-monsoon nullah cleaning operations by cabal of officials, contractors, builders, and transport operators — that could potentially lead to flooding

BMC has been hit by allegations of a multi-crore “fake desilting scam” in its P North ward ahead of the monsoon season.

Advocate Rafiq Gori has filed a complaint with Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, alleging a massive nexus involving contractors, civic officials, private builders, and transport operators have been siphoning off public money by falsely showing construction debris and road excavation waste as “nullah desilting material”.

According to the complaint, instead of carrying out actual desilting operations, debris from private construction sites in Goregaon West and Lokhandwala, Andheri Wes
