The Sleeping Satellite is a Hindi modern alternative rock band based out of Mumbai, India. The band derives its inspiration from top international bands like the Porcupine Tree, Switchfoot and God is an Astronaut. Their sound is a mix of classic rock guitars with solid basslines accentuated by a groovy beat. Filling in for the feels is a wall of synth/orchestral elements. On top of this, the vocals makes it presence felt with a distinct tone and ultra high notes. With the influences quite audible in their songs, the band is adamant on using Hindi as their language.
“We chose Hindi as the language because we wanted to show the versatility and experimentation this band is ready to go through in order to explore that cross cultural bond. Although we do identify within a genre, we don’t necessarily stick to it. That’s how music should be, untamed”, says Albert Dyrile Lakra , the lead vocalist of the band. Other members include Raja Pradhan on the guitars, Mondip Kalita on the bass.
They are now coming up with their debut EP titled “Manzil” of which their first single “Udd Chala” which was out on 5th June,2020 and "KHOJ" which was out on 30th July 2020. The recording for the EP took place in Blue Cassette Studios in Thane, Mumbai.
The band is solely focused on coming up with good content and plans on following up with an album in the next year. With things uncertain for the time being with regards to COVID, the band still plans on releasing their songs to give its listeners something to look forward to from the band.
“Show or no show, the band will go on”, says Raja.
