Does the Creative Director return your call? 📞
The day Creative Directors start returning your calls - that’s the day you’ve truly made it as a producer or director. 😎
It’s got less to do with how shiny your reel is, and more to do with how well you’ve built your relationships and name in the industry. 🤝
Because no fat cheque 💰 that kinda street cred or respect. 💯👊

Chatted with 2 directors. Both were jobless for 2 yrs 😅
Now they’re back shootin’ premium, big-budget stuff charging fat fees 💰
What’s the secret sauce?
❤️ for the craft & zero chill for underquoting producers. They stayed real, didn’t beg for scraps, now agencies and producers are chasing them 😎

The Serendipity Mindset ✨🎬

The “Serendipity Mindset” isn’t just about random luck. It’s about creating it. Popularized by Dr. Christian Busch in his book The Serendipity Mindset: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck, it’s all about cultivating the right attitude, habits, and actions so opportunities find you.

In filmmaking, talent and craft matter, but so does timing, luck, and being in the right place at the right time. That’s where this mindset comes in.

Instead of waiting for luck to strike, the serendipity mindset is about making opportunities happen. It’s about being open, proactive, and ready to connect the dots when chance drops someone or something in your path.

Here’s how Directors, DOPs, Editors etc can use it to get work:

1️⃣ Show Up, Even Without a Script

Hit award functions, industry events, screenings. Jobs often come from conversations, not cold emails. 🗣️

2️⃣ Keep Sharing Your Work

That short film, spec ad, or quirky reel, put it out there. The more eyes see it, the more likely it’s your ticket to the next gig. 🎥

3️⃣ Follow Curiosity, Not Just Strategy

Serendipity often shows up in unexpected spaces. A casual chat with a sound designer at a party could lead to a major brand film later. 🎉

4️⃣ Be Generous With Your Network

Connect people, recommend others, share opportunities. Good karma comes back in surprising ways. 🤝

The truth? You don’t “find” opportunities, you create the conditions for them to find you. 🚀

This was just a random cartoon… but guess what? One director straight-up rang me like, “You talking bout me?!” 📞👀😂

Writers: Don’t sell your script for peanuts 🥜
Was chatting with a creative who told me how, in his early ad days, he sold a script without even peeking at the contract 🤦‍♂️. Now he looks back and knows he could’ve charged way more 💸.
And that’s the hustle trap. When you finally get someone interested in your story, it’s tempting to jump. But here’s the deal:
🚫 Don’t sell yourself short.
👨‍⚖️ Always get a lawyer to comb through the terms.
⏳ Add a clause that if the film doesn’t go on floors within a set time, the rights bounce back to you.
📝 Before sharing anything, register your script with the writers’ guild (or the local equivalent).
And please, if you’re pitching to producers or funders, don’t start handing out your entire script like free samples 🍬. At best, share a synopsis after your work is registered ✅.
🔒 Bottom line: You poured sweat, time, and soul into it, don’t pawn it off like scrap. Scripts are gold 💎

10 Reasons India Needs a Director’s Rep Agency.

Most big Western countries already have director reps 🎬✨ … time India got one of its own too. Here's why -

1️⃣ Hidden Talent Shines 💡 – Tons of amazing directors out there, but nobody knows them. A rep makes sure they get seen.

2️⃣ Breaks the Buddy Bubble 👯‍♀️ – Right now producers find directors by asking their buddies or stalking Insta 👀📱. That means the same tiny circle keeps getting picked. A rep blows the pool wide open 🌊✨.

3️⃣ Directors Stay in Their Zone 🎥 – They focus on making cool work + building their brand, while the rep hustles for gigs.

4️⃣ One-Stop Plug 🛒 – Need a director? Call the rep. No endless DMs, no detective work.

5️⃣ Fresh Faces for Agencies 🌱 – Agencies don’t mind when reps bring new talent. It’s not a sales pitch, it’s a value add.

6️⃣ No More Awkward $$ Talks 💸 – Directors hate chasing payments. Reps handle the messy follow-ups.

7️⃣ Smarter Deals 🤝 – Budgets, crew, logistics, reps negotiate so both director + producer win.

8️⃣ From Chaos to Organized 📂 – No more random, messy process. A rep system actually professionalizes the game.

9️⃣ Long-Term Connects ❤️ – Reps build real relationships with agencies, brands, and producers. That trust brings repeat work.

🔟 Fair Shot for Everyone ⚖️ – Not just about who you know. A rep makes sure talent from anywhere gets discovered.

Directors, don’t doubt your reel.

I’ve seen this firsthand. Two of the hottest directors right now had their reels rejected multiple times when we pitched them a few years back. Not once, but again and again. Fast forward to today, and people are lining up to work with them. Their work is everywhere online.

The truth is, whether you land a job or not often has less to do with your talent and more to do with circumstances you can’t control (exceptions are there). Maybe the producer pitching you doesn’t have enough influence. Maybe your reel never even made it to the decision-maker. Or maybe the winning director had a producer who already had that relationship locked in.

So if the work isn’t coming in, don’t turn on yourself. Unless you’ve overpriced yourself or earned a bad reputation, the only thing you really need is one producer with the right clout to get your reel in front of the right person. And when that happens, you take off.

So when Bisk Farm was like, “Yo, we wanna do our 25-year anniversary film… but make it something no one’s ever done before 🎉,” they meant BUSINESS 😎.

Yeah, there are tons of AI-made videos out there these days 🤖🎥, but this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill AI job 🚫. No simple “type prompt, get video” kinda thing 💻✍️. We had to keep the characters looking the same throughout, show ‘em aging over time ⏳, have TWO people doing TWO different actions in every single prompt 🧑‍🤝‍🧑⚡, plus throw in the product – sometimes using CG magic 🧙‍♂️💥.

All said and done, we juggled like 11–12 different AI tools, plus Photoshop 👊🔥. Total next-level hustle 🚀

Crew Loyalty 💯
To Director who gets them the job? 🎬
Or Producer who gets Director the job? 💼🤔🔥

Most people think the real deal on a production is the Producer and the Director. 🤷‍♂️ But there’s a whole unsung squad that holds it down – the Director’s Crew or entourage. 💥We’re talkin’ DoP, DAs, ADs, Art Directors, Stylists… the whole gang that turns ideas into 🔥 visuals. 🎥✨

In most cases, the Director and their crew go way back. Super tight bond. 🤜🤛 Crew gets most of their gigs from the Director, so obviously their loyalty stays rock solid there. ❤️

But sometimes s**t gets messy when the Producer and the Crew aren’t seeing eye to eye 👀. And guess what? Both the Director and Producer end up takin’ an L.

So here’s the real hustle:When a Director brings their crew onboard, they gotta keep it 💯 and talk it out –“Yo, mad respect for your loyalty 🙌 and all the magic you bring to set. But remember, the Producer is the one making the whole thing happen 💼. Let’s keep it smooth and play as a team.” 👊

Smart crew knows it’s all about balancing love for the Director with respect for the Producer. That’s how you stay in the game long term. 💯🔥

Client: Why the hell should I pay mad $$$ for an AI film? when your your MidJourney sub costs like 800 bucks 🤔💸✨ Me: But you dropped lakhs for a script 🤡📜… when a printout costs 10 Rupee 😂🖨️

11/09/2025

Ahh, the AI gold rush 🤖💸

Everybody jumped in last year.

Us too, obviously 😎

But guess what?

AI Capabilities ain’t a flex anymore 💀

People are now making AI films for as low as 50K 🤯

Like we predicted way back – the cost of AI films has officially hit rock bottom ⬇️

This is a big wake-up call for producers 🚨

Stop trying to sell something the whole market has access to 🙄

Just last week, 3 big clients reached out 🚀

One top automotive brand 🚗, a jewelry label 💎, and a smartphone company 📱

All of them said the same thing:

“We have people doing AI films for 50-60K. Why pay more?” 🤦‍♂️

And honestly… you can’t argue with that logic 🤐

Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise for producers 🙌

Stick to what you’re good at, coz flexing AI ain’t an achievement anymore 🚫🏆

Oh, and if by some miracle we land an AI film?

Guess what… there are tons of people doing it for 30-40K now 🤡

Welcome to the AI economy 👊😎
