A Gate Valve is a type of valve used to start or stop the flow of liquid in a pipeline. It works by lifting a gate (or wedge) out of the path of the fluid. When the valve is fully open, the fluid flows in a straight line with very little resistance.
โ๏ธ How It Works:
The valve has a handwheel on top.
When you rotate the handwheel, the stem moves up or down.
The gate (wedge-shaped disc) rises to allow flow.
When lowered, the gate blocks the flow completely.

Stem
Gate (Disc)
Seat
Handwheel
โ
Advantages:
Very low pressure drop when fully open
Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications
Provides tight sealing
โ Disadvantages:
Not suitable for flow regulation (only fully open or fully closed)
Slow operation (takes time to open/close)
๐ Common Applications:
Water supply lines
Oil and gas pipelines
Steam systems
Industrial plants
