5th Year of the Kamlesh Mota International Gujarati Monologue Competition – A Platform for Winners to Showcase Their Talent
The competition, held in memory of renowned theatre personality Kamlesh Mota, continues to receive an enthusiastic response.
Mumbai, 26 July 2025: The 2025 edition of the Kamlesh Mota International Digital Gujarati Monologue Competition, which attracts entries from around the world, has now commenced. Last year, the competition received nearly 200 entries from 23 countries. Participants from Mumbai, various towns and cities of Maharashtra, Gujarat as a whole, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, California in America, Africa, England, and other places have taken part in this event. Last year, monologues uploaded for the competition on the YouTube channels of Mangrol Multimedia – Angikam – received over 1,25,000 views. This year, the organisers expect an even better response. There is visible enthusiasm among artists to participate; several entries have already been received.
The late Kamlesh Mota, a popular actor, director, and producer in Gujarati theatre, initiated this competition during the COVID-19 lockdown. Since his untimely passing, his friends and fellow theatre professionals have continued to carry his legacy forward. The competition is divided into four groups and is open to all. Anyone aged seven or above can participate.
Participants must record a monologue in Gujarati, up to a maximum of five minutes, shot in landscape mode on a mobile phone or another camera. No effects should be added to the video. Entries should be submitted only via the Telegram app on mobile number 9040466266 or by email to [email protected]. Submissions through any other means will not be accepted. The winners will be announced on Monday, 1 September 2025, which is the birth anniversary of the late Kamlesh Mota.
Winners will receive a trophy and a certificate. Additionally, the monologue with the highest number of views on the Deshwale and Angikam YouTube channels will also receive a trophy and certificate. Among the winners from all groups, one overall winner will be awarded the highest honour – the ‘Kamlesh Mota Memorial Trophy’.
The competition is organised by Aprami Kamlesh Mota, Babul Bhavsar, Sanjay Shah, Sonali Trivedi, Praful Parab, Mangrol Multimedia, and the Deshwale and Angikam YouTube channels. Senior theatre artist Niranjan Mehta is the mentor and guide for the event.
Details of the four groups:
Group 01 – Age 7–15
Group 02 – Age 16–32
Group 03 – Age 33–50
Group 04 – Age 51 and above
