At Anugraha, we’d be delighted to work on anything apart from luxury brands and things that promote consumerism in general. Anugraha is a design and publishing platform that encourages collaborative practices deriving from and contributing to elusive aspects of cultures, philosophies and ideas in general. By experimenting with and incorporating patterns and paradigms to express the intangible, it aims to weave a dynamic fabric of awareness leaving insiders and onlookers with a sense of connect. Co-founded by Deshna Mehta, Leena Mehta and Deven Shah, Anugraha aspires to adopt an inclusive appoach aimed at developing a mass appeal. Deshna’s creative strengths amalgamated with Deven’s print production and finishing expertise; spearheaded by Leena’s efficient management, client servicing skills and passion for creativity makes them complement each other effectively to produce compelling deliverables.

The process itself was deeply collaborative. Draft spreads were printed and reviewed page by page, with handwritten notes and post-its from the artist, Nikhil Chopra .chopra.artist. It brought a hands-on, immediate quality to the dialogue—generous, encouraging, and precise.

Equally integral to this process were Tara Lal tara_lal and Mortimer Chatterjee, who carefully mediated conversations and guided the design through their insight. Their clarity in communication and deep understanding of the artist’s work and its context helped shape decisions at every stage.

A reminder that thoughtful design emerges not just from systems and aesthetics, but from collaboration and shared understanding.

Cover Design Process

A collaborative process shaped through conversation, experimentation, and close attention to the artist’s mark-making.

Scans of Nikhil Chopra’s hand-drawn lines brought an immediate, tactile quality to the cover, keeping the artist’s original gestures at the heart of the design.

Tara Lal, tara_lal, and Mortimer Chatterjee, , were integral to the process, mediating conversations, offering insight, and helping guide the design at every stage.

Thoughtful design is as much about collaboration and shared understanding as it is about systems and aesthetics.

Book design, print and production for ‘Volume 6’ of the Alice B***r Dialogues publication series.

ALICE B***R AND P.K. MITTRA

This volume explores the untold story of the relationship between the Swiss artist, scholar, and art collector Alice B***r and P. K. Mittra, a Bengali lawyer, whom she met after settling in Varanasi in the mid-1930s. Drawing on a rich and varied body of sources—including their forty-year correspondence, photographs, and B***r’s drawings—it reconstructs their intimate relationship and entangled lives. While identifying the roles they played in each other’s lives, the volume also foregrounds their individuality. It traces Mittra’s personal world, reconstructing aspects of his personality, family life, and social networks, as well as his involvement in B***r’s professional activities in India. In addition, it examines how B***r’s understanding of India was shaped by and mediated through her relationship with Mittra. By bringing together textual and visual materials, the book offers a nuanced portrait of their bond and sheds new light on the affective and cultural dynamics of intercultural encounters in late colonial and early postcolonial India.

The project was undertaken by Studio Anugraha in collaboration and consultation with Harsha Vinay. This publication is the sixth volume of the Alice B***r Dialogue Series. Published in 2026 by Alice B***r Institute, Varanasi, Museum Rietberg, Zurich and Green Barbet, Bangalore
